NBL Expansion - South Dragons

Two questions:

1. Shouldn't the NBL be looking at consolidating existing teams (Breakers, Pirates, even the Taipans) rather than introducing a new team which will further dilute the playing strength?

2. Dodgy name. Should Souths and St George Illawarra be demanding compensation? ;-) Whilst they're at it, the Wests Tigers can jump on the Melbourne Tigers too and demand royalties. ;-)

Seriously, what do people think? (If they care?)

2. Why would Saints even bother with following this up?? TheNBL franchise will be dead after two seasons at the most...

Im not too sure about the Dragons to be honest.
The NBL looks better with 12 teams but Im worried about the novelty factor of the franchise. I mean they are playing at Vodafone Arena which has a capacity of around 10K. Meanwhile one of the NBL's premier clubs in the Melbourne Tigers is downsizing costs by playing at the State Netball Centre which has a capacity of 3,500. and filling it up quite nicely
IMO The Dragons should not be playing at Vodafone. The novelty of them will quickly fade away and they will struggle to fill it up.

With the state of the NBL at present they will need a pretty good team straight away that produces results. Otherwise like Choppies said the novelty will wear off after a few games and they will struggle.

However I do like the idea that they want to make it a Victorian only team.So maybe that will bring people along to games.

The South Dragons today announced a broader coaching short-list of international candidates, including Cleveland Cavaliers legend Mark Price.

Price joins two-time NBA Champion Cliff Levingston, former NBA head coach Morris "Mo" McHone, Rod Jensen, Jim Saia and Gordie Herbert in what will stand as a landmark announcement for the league's newest franchise.

That's a good list of coaches. Mo McHone coached the Spurs, I believe, in the past. Gordie Herbert is a Canadian who coaches in Europe. He has been an assistant with the national team, but didn't get the head coaching job when they went with a biiger name with no coaching experience.

Will they likely go with Mark Price for his name? What a great player he was.
