With the great news about Benji Marshall, correct me if I am wrong but Chris Lawrence, Keith Galloway and Gareth Ellis come off contract at the end of this year, and I'd like to think the Tigers would be looking to extend all 3 contracts as a matter of priority - I hope the cash is there.

I think Ellis signed for three years and I have a feeling Galloway is contracted to the end of 2011. As for Lawrence their will be 16 clubs all trying for him, the word has been around for a long time that Rusty wants him over at the Burrow.
You would think the cap must be getting tight

Ellis is here for another 2 years atleast. Galloway I believe is here until 2011 or 2012. Lawrence an extension in 2008 I think hes off contract next year and will have several clubs after him.

I had it wrong - these guys are off contract at the end of the year -

Mark Flanagan (Option for 2011)
Blake Lazarus
Willie Mataka
Junior Moors (Option for 2011)
Jason Schirnack
Taniela Tuiaki
Tame Tupou (Option for 2011)
Tim Sheens

Lets hope Tuiaki comes back from his injury and jags a new deal.

So from that list, Flanagan, Moors and Tupou can be kept for another year if they perform or dumped to free up salary cap if they don't.

Lazarus, Mataka and Schirnack will be playing for contracts. Not to mention Sheens...

And as much as I hope Tuiaki is the same player he was, if he does not come back the same after his injury we can let him go. I would hate to see that happen though, he was in the best form of his career before it happened.

Looking through this list, there are alot of people we could possibly let go to secure Lawrence, Galloway and Ellis.

Payten would be heading for retirement, Heighington was talking Central Coast - they would be on some dollars and should cover Lawrences upgrade with extras towards Ellis.

Brown and Daniella would have to improve dramatically to warrant keeping them, getting rid of both will help keep Keith.

Dwyer and Schirnack have two years to make it, Taumata and Fulton's futures are in their own hands. Hopefully Gareth likes playing NRL enough not to chase dollars, and if he did, he would probably return to ESL?

The money from Ellis leaving and Payten retiring should be given straight to Chris Lawrence with a big red bow.

If the rumours are true, there may be a whole swag more cash for clubs to throw around in 2013, with new TV deals an a higher cap up for grabs. You'd think we'd have some idea of what is possible by mid 2011. It will be interesting to see what kind of impact this has on contract negotiations over the next 18-24 months...

What do you think our chances of keeping Ellis are?

Depends on a few things imo -

Is he homesick?
Is he after dollars?
Does he still think he has something to prove in the NRL?
Is an NRL premiership a major goal?

Hopefully he answers no, no, yes and probably no to the last or else he may go to another NRL club while Sheens persists with Lui and Fitzhenry.

Re-Sign him before he can get back on the field and use his injury to drive his price down. Would love to reward the big fella with some better dollars but not at the expence of some of the other talent we have at the club.

Hey Tuiaki, look mate we know you scored the most trys in a season for the Tigers ever last year and sure you got the Dally M for winger of the year, but you got injured so how about resigning a new contract for less?

I don't think either the club or him will want to put pen to paper until they know how he will recover, and if they do, it will probably be a 1 year extension like they did with Benji coming back from injury.

Lawrence will never play for another NRL club. The kid is simply to smart and has to much of an image to let him go.

He will probaly be the next player we sign to a long term deal.

If it comes down to a salary cap issue than we jan offload a player to superleague ala Fulton....Gibbs or Hino would do...

Also don't think Ellis is a chance to extend his contract with us unless we get to a Qualifying semi or better and lose...may trot out the unfinished buisness line...
