Having slept on it, this IMO has been the biggest problem with the NSW selectors these past few years: they are rushing too many 'green' players into the most influential positions on the field- the 1,6,7 and 9.
In these positions, at Origin level, you need players with considerable NRL experience under their belt. To throw a Mitch Pearce or a Peter Wallace in with so little experience and expect them to replicate the control of a Johns or a Langer is completely unfair.
Granted, occasionally you will get a player like Hayne or Inglis who plays to Origin standard the moment they take the field, but by and large younger players you put in the front row, in the centres or on the wing, where they have the more controlling, experienced players around them to guide them.
For the last few years, it concerns me the current NSW selectors have been too busy trying to find the halves of tomorrow, when perhaps they aren't ready to take that job today. Perhaps it would have been better to play guys like Kimmorley (despite his chequered Origin history) in there after all, guys who have played many seasons of 1st grade, guys who have been in several Origin camps and know how to handle it?
