greg, i agree with 80% of what you say (scary i agree with you so much)

webcke is a great talker and i prefer listening to him talk than wayne. (my opinion)

And yes the only time i like listening to coaches is after the game...you are right there. Any other time i am not that interested as i have heard it alllllll before.

the bronco teams of 88 & 89 were studded with origin stars & imo should have made it

well we shall see how the "mighty dragons" fair in 2005 with their "star studded lineup"

1988/98....16 teams : top 5

2005...15 teams : top 8
nice misdirection charlie ;-)
the broncos didn't just have a virtual seasoned origin team in 88 - 89, they had 10 or more then & former test players!

i like spin doctoring now and then ;-)
The broncos were not a dismal failure 88/9...

1988 won 14 lost 8
1989 won 14 lost 8

today that would be a top 5 spot easy.

come off it charlie
don't compare 1988 - 89 to 2005! - the team new then it was top 5 didn't they? ;-) they were riddled with seasoned representitive veterans and f*cked up - why did the teams above them make it? what's the representitve comparrison between the semi-finalists of 88-89 & the broncos of the time? ;-)

so they missed the semis...whoppeee dooo.
They currently hold the 2nd longest streak of semis appearances behind the dragons of the 50s and 60s.
Brisbane wont be a class outfit forever...they will have their dips just like every club has

When did Beaver start tackling with his shoulder? Can't wait to see this.
www.nrl.com

go to video gallery and watch canberra game

Ignore them. You would have to be blind to not know Beaver is one of the best tacklers in the game.

I Can't see the Broncos dipping for quite a while. Lockyers only 27,28 and by the time he retires Seymour , Barnes , Hunt , Bott will all be classy players.

and so they shouldn't!
they are seldom without 50% representitive players in their roster, so it would be a slack effort if they didn't make it to playoffs

This statement doesn't hold up under closer scrutiny. One of the major reasons Brisbane have so many rep players is that the pool for Qld Origin is so much smaller than that for NSW. With Benny's heavy involvement with Origin and his preference for picking players he has coached, it's no surprise that so many Broncos represent.

What's gotten into you anyway Gregstar? You're like a mongrel dog after a bone with this one, most unlike your normal light-hearted self.

well then charles - if the dragons don't make the semis this year, is it a greater failure than the broncos of 88 - 89?

mate - they still get picked & perform at a high level - many of whom go on & play for australia
this experience makes a huge difference to players - the size of the talent pool doesn't have a bearing on it - the fact that these players become seasoned rep players can only benefit the broncos.

How many Broncos would be good enough to get picked in the NSW SOO though?

those that play for australia ;-)

the point is - regardless of the talent pool, any player in state of origin benefits from the experience gained from it.

This has gone a long, long, long way from the original topic of Berrick Barnes.

But the 1988 Broncos came in 6th I think. And Lewis , Miles etc were getting towards the end of their career.

88 brisbane finished 7th behind panthers and tigers who had a playoff for 5th
89 tied for 5th, but smashed by the sharks in the playoff for 5th.

brisbane were not disgraced.
