Mickey Arthur appointed Aus head coach on an initial 3.5-year contract, taking him through to at least the 2015 World Cup in Aus & NZ.

Would have preferred to see Rixon rewarded but good luck to Authur. He rated Wade which is a positive might see him get picked.

Nice one you f**king merkin wanker.
Calm Down princess, it's not my fault your attempt at humour missed by as far as a Mitchell johnson delivery.

Not sold on the decision I feel he was given the job because of SA beating us out here 3 yrs ago. At least he'll be an improvement on Hages\ Neilsen.

Apparently his great grand father was Australian, that is good enough to claim a player as an Australian in League.

Boom. Great decision CA.

One of the best coaches in the world. Not a CA sycophant. Not one of the boys.

The light at the end of the tunnel for cricket in this country has officially been switched back on.

Agreed. Particularly because of the bolded points. Rixon was my preferred choice, but then again, maybe an outsider is the best thing we need. Keep Arthur for as long as he does a good job, and then bring Rixon in after him.

This was Rixon's chance, he'll be 60 by the time Authur is finished and the way Lehmann is going he'll probably take over.

I like it.

Coach with international experience. Check.

Coach who will not back down to the current group of players. Check.

Coach who has previously done well internationally. Check.

This ofcourse could mean shit all. However it's an aggressive move by CA that will hopefully signal a real intent to change the 1000 year old philosophy that guided all decisions by the governing body. Who cares if he is South African? The success of both Flower and Kirsten at the international level most likely played a part in Arthurs' selection.

Good decision, won't take poor performances, and my question about Rixon was whether he could put his love of certain players aside. Sensible decision CA.

Nationality should be irrelevant if he was viewed as the best candidate. With that in mind, I'm OK with the decision. But would have been equally happy with Rixon. Ecstatic that Langer didn't get the gig though... he would have ensured that Ponting would have played through to the 2013 Ashes.

Mickey Arthur on Ponting:

on Michael Beer:

on North and Hussey before the Ashes:

on Mitchell Johnson

Every time he opens his mouth he says something stupid. And now we're stuck with him for 3.5 years. Yippee.
Some of those quotes are quite worrying, Hildudish in fact. Still don't believe the coach should be a selector in the first place.

Apparently his great grand father was Australian, that is good enough to claim a player as an Australian in League.

From the PC on Fox, he said he has settled in Perth and already applied for Australian citizenship, he was also supporting the Aussies in the test match last night.

One of the journos asked him if getting the Aussie coaching job would speed up his citizenship application and he responded "I hope so"

This makes me feel a bit better about him getting the job.
