Hi all you Dragons supporters, being a long time visitor to these forums I thought it was about time I joined.
No I'm not jumping on the bandwagon because the Dragons are the 2010 Premiers, more so I'm happy for all the fans who have waited so long for this day and hope that they get to see many more. Being a long time supporter, since 1959, I've experienced the highs and lows that comes with being a Dragons fan.
While I long for the days when scrums were a real contest, when even the play the ball was too, yes the penalty count was higher, when players were 80min footballers and most were specialists in their position. When a tackle was a tackle, not dominant or surrender, when you had to have 'control' of the ball when scoring. Well I could go on but you get the picture I'm sure.
Having said that I still enjoy watching as many matches as I can, from the comfort of my lounge on a 1.8m screen (Lcd projector, LG).
Can't wait for 2011.

Cheers,
OldMan Dragin'

Wecome Oldman Dragin. I'm still jealous of the vintage Saints/ SGI supporters as I don't think we will see any club dominate as the Saints did ever again, a very special time. I would have loved to see the Red V in those great years. At least the duck has been broken for so many of us.

If I may be so bold, as Muzby is top shelf however, is it 2 inches of the ground.

I'm a newbie too but definately no bandwagon supporter, I've been supporting them since 85 my favorite players were Morris and Linane back in the day. Anyway what a journey it has been in 2010, used to follow the forums but glad to have joined.

Frenzy, the memories I wasn't kidding, they are fading fast, the little blue pills I definitely was!

Speaking of memories one of the fondest was as a youngster, listening to Tiger Black or Frank Hide on the radio, no tv back then, calling a Saints versus Balmain match, boy they made you feel like you were right there with them watching the game.
Balmain was in front with 30secs to go, I looked a at my brother who was listening with me, he had a great big smug smile on his face, he being a Balmain supporter, Saints got the ball took it to about 35 yards, no metres then either, out from Balmains line. Billy Smith had the ball and chip kicked over the defence, Langlands dashed through and around a few players to catch the ball and planted it down to score just as the hooter sounded.
Saints won and I was the one with the big grin, how sweet that was. I think that was the reason Smith became my favourite player of that era. In the quiet moments in any present day match between Dragons and West Tigers I often think of that match and my brother, he passed away many years ago.
Just think what old age would be like without memories.

Cheers,

I recall my Grandfather telling me stories of the great players that played for the mighty Dragons in the 50's and 60's. He was a die hard Dragons man and even worked the door at the Taj in the 70's.
I left the area as a 3 year old and moved to QLD with my parents, my Grandparents followed soon after. My grandfather instilled in me a passion for the Dragons ever since I can remember, almost 40 years now. As the final siren sounded last Sunday all I could think of was that I wish he was there with me to enjoy it as he had passed about 10 years ago.
It is great having you on board Oldman Dragin, perhaps you could tell us some more stories of that era.

Sloth I wish I could pick out individual games or moments but there has been so many great games, tries, players etc not just the Dragons either but my memory is not that good, sometimes I might be talking to family or watching a game and something triggers a memory.
The thing that stands out the most, is how tough but still skillfull, the players were in the old days, how what happened on the field stayed on the field, different era I suppose.
If you Google, eraofthebiff or rl1908 Clubs or rugby league great tries you may find some great reading and viewing.

big pat, thanks old fella, now about those 'red pills'............:D

old man dragin... if you go to the sharks forum, make sure you leave your wallet, phone & anything of value here...

and don't give anyone there your spare change, no matter how convincing their story is about needing a bus fare to see their sick mother..

and if you do want to meet quigs, you probably have more chance of meeting him here.. :)

G'day old fella,

Thanks for the kind words about the Biff. I have plans to redo the entire site soon.

You will soon find out that most the other old farts in here have dementia, or alcohol related illnesses. Re the youngens, a vast majority are a few floggins short of being good blokes.

And some of them are still choking on their mates kebabs after the GF. (Cough, splurt .... cough .... and Oldfart Drag - congrats on living long enough to see another one too ....sh!t that hurts saying that)

And don't believe what the dancing boy says about bringing your lira into our stand alone club room. We are an equal opportunity forum. We dont care whose money we take as a donation.

If you want to start with a donation send it off to me.

Cheers
Quigs
