I've seen enough of NBQ to know he isn't a first grade calibur player, he's had so many opportunities at the Tigers, and hasn't capitalised on any of them. He is prone to mistakes and bad decisions. Why would I want this player at our club? He's had his chances, and I'd much prefer if he got yet another one somewhere else other than the Eels. If he succeeds, good on him, he'll have proved me wrong, but I really don't want guys who have blown so many opportunities somewhere else having a possible chance to play first grade for the club I support.
As much as I'm impressed about your knowledge of our lower grades and junior ranks, does it make you feel like a more passionate and dedicated Eels supporter than the rest of us because you can throw names a lot of people would not of heard of up in conversation? It seems like it, since I personally see no other reason for the name dropping you've done other than to try and one up the rest of us.
Sure, Killer, Burty, Ash, et al., all got their chances through the lower grades here, but the big difference is these guys had natural talent that anybody could recognise. They got their first grade chances and made the most of them, most of them haven't looked back at the lower grades since they made their breakthrough, whereas NBQ has shifted in and out of firsts regularly, unable to replicate any type of form in the top grade. I'm all for juniors and young guys getting their chances, but I'd rather not sign certain players, and NBQ is one of them.
Mal Kafusi, is another. Given chances, but never taken them. He played at the Roosters, last year, didn't he? A winning club, and what did he do? Despite the roosters suffering some injuries in the pack (Robinson, Cusack, Payten and Catic all spent time off the field this year) he never even looked like playing first grade. We saw what can happen this year when young guys come into grade to fill in for injuries rather than guys taking their umpteenth chances (Armit, Tsoulos, Ash, Witty) and I think we should stick with that rather than buying average premier league players to pad out the roster.
All in all, I approve of a lot of the guys we've signed, but sometimes things just get a bit ridiculous, and signing NBQ is pushing that border, so forgive me for disliking us signing nothing players, but where you see it as giving them a chance, I see it as giving them yet another chance.
