There is nothing wrong with the current players, signing newcomers won't help.
We have 5 players selected for Origin FFS!
It isn't the roster, its the coaching and self belief.
Sorry but you appear to be in denial
The current roster is not as strong as people think and in fact needs a good clean out along with the coaching staff
We have a few good players and an aweful lot of chaff

I hope not. But its the type of signing that I was talking about in the other thread.
He's 25 and played 22 games in 4yrs.
1 game this year played 12 mins ran 10m in 1 hit up, made 10 tackles and missed 2.
Lats V2
But if true, it would be trumpeted as an NRL experienced prop who has played for both Nth Qld and the Storm, he is also an International player representing Tonga.
Don’t forget the old he comes from a good system.

Not saying that we have the best roster but adding more players to it won't change the outcome.
First thing we need to do is get a new coach and then look at bringing in some new players to replace the "chaff"
Doing it ViceVersa will not work.

I think we have the makings of a strong roster with the exception ofxa few positions.
We have, imo, a significantly stronger roster than the Raiders, but where do they sit on the ladder, compared to us? Not for 1 second suggesting that Sticky is a better coach than McGregor, however, ge serms to be able to getbthe best out of what he's got, including some juniors, who, under McGregor would even he invited to the ground, nevertheless, be selected in 1st grade.

The right coach turns average players into good FG players The wrong coach turns good FG players into average Fg players. See Hasler at Manly and Bellamy at the Storm.

So true, and Saints currently have a great cop of players with a heap of potential, yet will not be utilised under a coach who is clueless.

St George Illawarra have announced Melbourne Storm front-rower Patrick Kaufusi will join the Dragons for the remainder of the season.

The Tongan international and former Queensland Under-20s representative has played 25 NRL games to date across stints with North Queensland and Melbourne.

Kaufusi played 22 games for the Cowboys in 2015-17 before a season-ending foot injury derailed his final season at the club, where he played the first nine rounds. He joined the Storm in 2018 where he featured three times.

"Patrick is a welcomed addition to our roster for 2019, he's a quality person from a tremendous squad and system," Dragons Director of Rugby League Pathways and List Management Ian Millward said.

"He's a player capable of playing in the middle and back row, who is keen and willing to play first grade.

"With the current spate of injuries in the team, it's a really good opportunity for Patrick and the Dragons to see what impact he can bring to the club and playing squad. From there, we can consider our options with him for the 2020 season."

A positional equivalent to Jack de Belin as a middle forward, Kaufusi fits the NRL's criteria for salary cap dispensation and will fill the Dragons' 30th roster spot as required before June 30.

"You don't replace a player of Jack de Belin's calibre with ease, particularly midway through the season," Millward said.

"This entire process and circumstance has been extremely complex. It is complicated by not only the rules and regulations but also by the existing injury toll across the competition. This means clubs are unwilling to release players, as the representative period is back in full swing too.

"There has also been no clarity over salary cap dispensation for 2020 or when a determination of Jack's matters will be reached, which makes it very difficult to both accurately plan as a club and offer prospective players any certainty beyond 2019 – particularly with 23 players already under contract for next year.

"It has been a lengthy process to get to this point but we are pleased we have been able to come to this arrangement with Patrick and the Melbourne Storm."

The current NRL development player squad will also become available for first grade selection post-June 30. The Dragons' 2019 development players are Eddie Blacker, Jackson Ford, Hayden Lomax, Joe Lovodua, Steven Marsters and Jason Saab.

Kaufusi will arrive for St George Illawarra Dragons training this weekend.

Nailed it. Get a new coach who's got a clue what he's doing and let him drive any changes to the team.

At the moment we could sign Tedesco, Cook and Ponga and still struggle.

And a left centre and two wingers and a full back
This is our biggest issue.
Even though our forwards are depleted at the moment they will bounce back as players return.
The backs however have been an issue since 2012.
There are no players that would be automatic choices in any other squad.
There are players playing out of position. There are players playing out of their skins. There are players There based on past performances from years ago. There are players there who aren't ready for first grade.

Don't get me wrong, I think highly of everyone there.
But just 'imagine' this...

The following players moved club last year
Ferguson, E Lee, The Morris brothers, Garrick.

Take any two or three of these and they pick themselves.

The problem is that we need to replace JDB as close to like for like under the compensation rules set out by the NRL. For me RCG is the best option if available given that Graham is going down injured more often and our youngsters Kerr and Timm do not seem to be favoured by Mary.

I'd like to see SGI buy a right centre and prop in readiness for 2020. I feel Graham will return to ESL with Widdop. Aitken and a number of fringe players need to go so the more we expose the players we want to keep in first grade this year, the better it will be in 2020.

My preferred team for 2020 would be:
1. Lomax
2. Saab
3. Walker
4. New Recruit
5. Pearson
6. Norman
7. Flanagan
8. RCG
9. Hunt
10. Vaughan
11. T Sims
12. K Sims
13. Frizell

14. McInnes
15. Leilua
16. Lawrie
17. Kaufusi

Interesting that Kaufusi has only been signed for the remainder of the season, considering he obviously had a contract for that term already with the Storm. Good sign, I suppose, for his motivation for the rest of the year. He's here for the opportunity rather than a guaranteed extra year

Aitken and Lafai are still contracted next year.
Flanagan? Why are you replacing Hunt with Flanagan? Hunt is a better 7 than Flanagan at this stage.
Walker? Is that the Walker that has been in trouble with the law? Surely we don't want him at our club.
McInnes on the bench? So he comes on for Hunt and Hunt plays what 55 mins? Thats a lot of money sitting on the bench with those 2 players.

Positives, I like Saab and Pearson as wingers, they are tall and fast and look like genuine wingers.
Lomax at fullback is worth a crack too.
Dufty has better ball playing skills and is more explosive but his small frame is causing us embarrassing lack of power in kick returns.
