Id say for this season he is a FB or nothing, he could do the utility role but I think there are players better suited to it then Moylan. Ill get bagged for this but id have Josh Reynolds as the utility. I don't particularly rate him as a half but he can cover it if needed, same for hooker. I think the energy he brings would be great to bring on late in the half, just bring him on in the backrow and tell him to just run constantly for 15 minutes, bring Cartwright on at the same time and tell Reynolds to stay attached to his hip.

If not Reynolds then J Bird or Peachey.

IMO, Peachey can do anything that Reynolds can, but better.

Yeah I agree id just be worried about the amount of debutants. It is a home series though so that helps. And realistically Laurie isn't going to select more than 2 panthers, Mansour and Cartwright are likely to be the two, Moylan obviously if Dugan is shifted out wide.

Teams get picked on Sunday don't they? Cartwright should definitely get picked, on the bench though. Way too passenger like in D so starting in an intense SOO showdown does him no favours, would be good for impact / X factor off the bench

Centre pairings will be Jennings & Morris

Wingers will be Mansour & Fergo (really doesn't deserve it on form but being picked in the Australian team guarantees a spot surely)

Fullback Dugan. Halves have no clue at all could literally be anyone

Forwards kind of pick themselves imo apart from Farah which we all know he will be there

Do people not think that this is part of the problem?

We don't have the luxury of depth like Qld does in the forwards...who else would you pick in favour of Woods, Tamou, Klemmer, Gallen etc?

Woods, Tamou and Gallen are givens. Its guys like Merrin and Jackson that im not sure of.

As for depth, Frizell, Paulo, Boyd, Vaughan, Bird, Finucane...there's depth there, all of which are playing solidly enough

I don't know what Merrin has done wrong, apart from switch to a club that doesn't get players picked for Origin. His form is pretty good. He's a bloke who does your pig work, like Gallen. That's his role. He's the perfect bench player to come on when Gallen has a rest. He didn't play in CvC, maybe he's a given too.

Not all that sure why Woods is a given, but he probably is. He didn't do an awful lot on the weekend in a badly beaten pack.

If you think that's bad, you should read where he wanted Bryce Cartwright picked for NSW at five eight
Ball skills, you see. It is a sign of the exasperation some have with the lack of ball-playing halves eligible for NSW, that there are those who'd put a ball playing backrower or fullback (such as Moylan or Coote) there. All would stand a fair chance of being out and out disasters and would damage the rep careers of the players concerned, and thus should be ignored.

Better to have a ballplaying fullback and/or second rower playing in their accustomed position. Someone like Moylan or Coote regularly drifts into the halves in attack.

I'll admit he's been pretty average this year but it's hard to shine in a pack that gets absolutely steamrolled every week. He's good for making runs carrying 3 blokes and then chucking a sneaky offload every now and then and has a bit of skill to ball play close to the line (as shown quite a few times over his career)

Also he'll probably take over Gallens reign of captaincy next year because out of all the young crop he's seen as a leader

Ahhh yeah quite a few, what worries me most is all those fringe origin players will be blooded straight into the arena with no experience rather than being eased in off the bench...

For example this year you'd think Gallen, Farah, Bird, Scott's last year and they'd all be replaced by debutants

But hey we've only won one series in the last 10 years what's the worst that can happen

Who cares if Moylan hasn't played at 5/8. I'd bet my nuts that he'd do a better job than any of the others. It's called prescience. Yes there is no chance that Daley will pick him there. But i'll stand by my choice.

He's not even the best 5/8 at Penrith! But by all means lets give the the Sky Blue No. 6.

I mean if John Candy can turn 4 Jamaican sprinters into an Olympic bobsled team why can't Daley turn Moylan into an instant 5/8?

Matt Moylan hasn't played 5/8 for Penrith why do people think it will be a good idea for him to make his positional debut at Origin level?

http://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/matches/Custom/OC0tNC0tLS0tLTIwMzcxLS0tLS0tLS0tLS0tLQ==

Because people are willing to try anything to make sure the nuffies from the last few years to get a run again. Pearce, Reynolds, Hogdkinson....Moylan has a shitload more vision and ball playing ability then any of those 3 plodders. Whether he can run a team and defend remains to be seen,, id just pick him at FB and go with A Reynolds and Maloney.

Basically

I agree with this, Moylan is a great footballer he will be an rep player for a long time.
There is obviously no chance that Laurie will pick him at 5/8 but I would hate to see someone get destroyed at Origin level and shatter their confidence.

I'd be happy to pick him at FB or as a Utility.

I like Moylan and see him as a rep player as well but not really at fullback - too small and not fast enough. I think his future will be in the halves.

what chu on about f**ko

Lol

If he was best 5/8 in Penrith surely he would have played at least 1 game in the 6 jersey.
No doubt he will be a rep 5/8 in the near future but let's give the bloke a crack at club level first.

He would do no worse than the other plodders we have but let's not ruin his development by throwing him to the lions.

It's only 17 days. It's not that he hadn't played in 8 weeks.
For the entire month of May he will have only played a part game(last weekend). He's well underdone and is welll down on form.
Edit. 23 minutes in the 33 days leading up to origin.
