Well with the controversy on the naming of the new stadium in the city it does raise the question .who actually decides what names go on the stands on our new stadium
I don’t know who decides but it shouldn’t be that hard.

There are the obvious choices I think Brandy has to be one for certain.

The woke and cancel culture brigade will prevent Gowie from being considered So he’s not in the running.

Personally I think the stands should be named after our immortals those instrumental in our premiership successes long term players.

Nathan Cleary is going to end up our best player so we should save at least 1 stand for the future. Just use North, south, east, west as a place holder

Assuming his career continues to go in an upward trajectory he will get a stand named after him. Just not 2025 when it opens.

He still has a way to go to surpass Brandy and Gowie in my opinion.

I am aware many have never forgiven Gowie for the Jack Newton Gold Classic fiasco but he was a warrior for us, a truly great player, arguably the gutsiest player ever to pull on a Panthers guernsey.

I'd have him ahead of Gower now tbh. I say that as someone who thinks chasing Mitch Pearce while munted in a golfcart is one of Gowies finest moments. Cleary is already far superior as a half than Gower ever was imo. You would never see Nathan attempt to kick a ball back over his own dead ball line to close out a game and f**k it up. Gower did exactly that against the Dragons, you would have been at the game in question without a doubt. He had a bit of brain snap in him on and off the field on multiple occasions. Tough as nails no doubt, but so is Nathan.

Brandy will forever be Penriths favourite son, but I can see Nathan eclipsing him as a player as well.

That’s fine, Nathan’s done the business for a few seasons Gowie did business for his entire career. Fans forget, the passage of time and all, Craig Gower was an amazing player. It should never be forgotten how Gowie just to get on the field had to have needles driven into his sternum so bad was his injury. We’re not talking a game or two here, folklore has it many if his team mates had to leave the dressing room when he was being administered his ‘horse’ needles. Nathan may well overtake Brandy and Gowie but he has at least four or five seasons of quality before he can lay claim to being better than either.

Bloody hell!! I was at that game against the Dragons in 2003. I think everyone that day had the look of “why the f**k did you do that for Gower?!?” across their faces when that happened.

Johnny Lang was absolutely livid. His face on the big screen said what we were all thinking!!

We took quite a few penalty goal shots that afternoon as well. Might have been better served going for a touch finder to apply pressure or score a try.

Justified in the end as we won by 4. Dragons even scored more tries than us.

I said elsewhere. A few of this current crop would be in the overall greats of the club atm

It gets hard with playmakers but a 2nd premiership guys like Cleary, Fish etc come into that level

Dragons would get their revenge later that year at Wollongong, jumping to a lead that we could not run down. They were a worthy opponent to us that year yet failed to reach the finals. It was our final loss of the season.

I was a big Gower fan so my thoughts aren't meant to be dismissive of what he bought to the club. I just think Nathan has reached that level already. Recency bias could be clouding my judgement.

Gowers exit was handled pretty poorly which tarnishes things a bit too for me.

The collective groan from the crowd was pretty funny in hindsight. At the time not so much. lol. Still nowhere near as bad as the Cows game in 98. Gower was absent from that shit show iirc. Pretty sure it was Girds first outing with the C next to his name.

People know I am not a fan of 7's in general but we have had some ordinary one's but the 3 very good almost elite ones.

Gower played for Australia 23 times. Would of been atleast 1 extra if not kicked off the team
In an era that contained Andrew Johns. Should of had the Daly M in 2003 too across 230 games. Gower also captained Australia once

Brandy had Dally M and Australian Jersey's also 230 odd games.

It isn't the current guys fault Australia doesn't play their time will come.
Brandy and Gower can't win multiple Premierships whereas the current guys can

It isn't just Cleary. As good as Girds was Crichton likely ends up infront of him.
JFH too then the older guys

Same could be said for any number of greats

Brandy with the professionalism of today would of been even better.

All you can do is look at the relevant stats that matter and go from there.

Crichton at 21 is already a premiership winner.

Recency bias is always a big factor. You tend to forget with the passage of time particularly when making comparisons.

Puletua, Pritchard, Kikau is an interesting comparison. I don’t think Kikau has ever reached the heights of the other two, should have but hasn’t quite got there. All great players I think Tony P shades the other two overall.

Girdler is an interesting one because the game has evolved so much. The modern day centres are just so much bigger physically. Different game.

Best centre we ever had if you don't count Freddy
