You're right, there is no way that Gallop would have thought to copy to AFL a year or so after they set up their own media unit, just like the ARLC have done. I think it's time to stop laying the boot into Gallop FFS. The bloke did his job and now is gone. Might not have been the most innovative I'll grant you that, but he did a decent job in my book given the state of the game when he took over. The fact that FA snapped him up says he was a better administrator than he was given credit for. That, or the LU keyboard warriors are a better judge than that no-name Frank Lowy.

Gallop gets no points for running the game on an oily rag seeing as he undersold the rights to his true masters news ltd in the first place

Getting rid of Gallop has been the greatest thing to happen since the ARLC took over IMO

And the AFL did not invent having a media division. The NFL had one long before they did

Bourbon Bekkie thinks it's a catastrophe, getting rid of Gallop. She has been deathriding the ARLC ,ever since it was established.

Once the NRL's media division comes into full operation, she wiil be getting less and less scoop stories, thus havingto make things up,which she is an expert.

Even if the ARLC did nothing else hypothetically ,the Stategic Plan they introduced, was something any admin with a clue should have introduced straight after the SL war.Mr um and aah did nothing in that respect.

I'll second that motion. Gallop was great at putting out fires but had nothing when it came to planning for the future.

Something the FFA is about to find out.

Gallop was fighting with one hand tied behind his back because of the lack of funds, and one eye blind due to News ownership. Can we stop whining about him yet?

He could and should have had a strategy for the game, the fact he didn't for all those years was just a massive failure for any CEO of any company. But like said water under the bridge, move on.

I disagree. Gallop was a lawyer and he did what lawyers do and minimised damage once bad shit had happened.

I do though agree on him being reactive. This was caused by his lack of any sort of planning for the game.

Which created fires, a lot of the fires were born out of this therefore he was burning bridges, how embarrassing that Wagga saga was, it really highlighted his lack of intuition, all he did was spit the dummy. A better leader would have distanced themselves saying that we do not take money from councils we provide to the community and used numbers to back it up. A good leader would have done this.

Seen a couple of articles now stating the deal is onlY $100mill for 5 years. Is that right? Shit deal if it is considering AFL got more than double that for their equivalent deals.

Correct about the $100m.But what are you on about?

The last mobile deal was $10m pa,now doubled to $20m pa.The deal the AFL got was $30m pa(which sources say was an overpayment). The AFL I understand do not get the benefit as the NRL does, of getting a share of profits (in addition) from the likes of Vodaphone and Optus, who will get a share of this content.
If that is a sh*t deal, then load some of this " crap " on my plate.

How would you know PR? Do you know what any of the other offers were? If there were even other offers?

Media deal is $100mill.

Doesn't include Telstras naming rights.

Geezes this AGAIN;

Telstra would not disclose the commercial value of the contract but ARLC chairman John Grant said the deal was worth “double” in cash and contra to their previous deal.

So it's $30 million a year in cash and contra, NEXT.

I thought the NRL said part of the agreement was to not disclosed the amount paid. Seems the only ones who want/need to know are those desperate to compare it to other sports/organisations to see who 'won'.

I want to know as I want to know if the arlc are doing a good job in bringing in income for the game. If your not going to measure yourself against your nearest and greatest competitor what are you going to use to see if we are over or under achieving and if he game is being sold for what it is worth?

The bar is $210 mill for 5 years for Internet and naming rights. I'd like to know how close we got to the bar.
