New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

How the f**k does a sold out Lang Park clash between Brisbane Broncos and Redcliffe Dolphins guarantee the next team will be from the New Zealand?

Rugby league is the most popular sport in Brisbane. Brisbane has over 2.5 million people. The game was always going to be a sell out.

There is no city in New Zealand that is equivalent to Brisbane.

Auckland cannot sustain a second team. The one it does have is only half as big as the Broncos.

No other city in New Zealand is big enough to support an NRL team without assistance from the ARLC.

The only serious candidates for the 18th licence are Pirates and Firehawks.

Don't be surprised if we end up with Pirates, Firehawks and Jets by 2035. They're the only bids that have any substance to them. The ARLC is not interested in propping up a franchise in a volatile market and the broadcasters will not want a second New Zealand team.
Its Toovey, love him to bits but have you seen the shape of his head? Genius he aint.

keep up, NZRLhas $8.8million to spend on growing the game. NZRU has $308million. Who do you think wins that fight? Why do you think RL is played in 4 schools and RU in 120? ITs as dumb as saying a Perth or melbourne NRL team will make NRL more popualr than AFL. youd have to be pretty dumb.

I mean this is what the game is facing without any money to change the perception of rugby league.

Moving to New Plymouth secondary schools, “They just made this assumption about me as one of those brown boys from South Auckland.”
He was lumped into what was commonly referred to as the “cabbage class” along with other brown students expected to be into “rugby, league or gangs”, which also brought bullying from other students.

The title thread is deal a massive blow and it will. An extra 15 million dollars raiding their talent. And extra franchise catching the imagination of the young kids, a direct ratings rival.
What don't you understand?
🤦‍♂️

You know he has a uni degree and worked as a professional accountant

you picked a bad example there but since you weren’t watching the Aussie league then it’s understandable

You would have to add up all the money nrl clubs spend on kiwi players
why? How is playing a kiwi, whose been in australia since 15 helping RL in NZ? How is that funding grassroots or increasing particpation? How is that getting more kids playing the game and more people watching the game? Its a nonsensical argument, even by your standards! Signing English players by NRL clubs isnt making English RL any stronger lol.

The only thing that is relevant is the funding to the Warriors, as some of that helps grow interest in the game and and pay for elite pathways, and NZRL. Ie about $18.75 mill of the NRL $600mil revenue

I have no idea what your argument is here? Anyone who thinks an NRL club in Perth will make any impact on AFL in WA is seriously deluded, just like a NZ2 in NZ on NZRU. Zero impact. That is not the reason you'd do either.
Great, so by your own admission. A Perth team won't make a dent in the Perth market 👍 got it 👌
Do you mind if I copy an past this to the Perth threads?

So we will spend, nearer, $18mill and that will challenge NZRU who have $308mill to spend? Yeh, nah. I think NZ2 if a viable owner and model can be found will be great for NRL. But it wont make a jot of difference to NZRU.

If you bothered to read the media you would see almost every week another Aussie club is getting a junior from nz

It wont make a jot of difference to AFL, but thats not why we should do it.
Swans, GWS, Lions and Suns made any difference to NRL?
Storm made any difference to AFL?
Wanderers made any difference to Eels?
Its a really really stupid argument.

The broadcasters will dictate where the next 1-3 teams are based. Strong ratings for the Dolphins, especially in the Battle For Brisbane Clash, will whet the broadcasters' appetite for more Brisbane teams. Perth is definitely a candidate for a team because it provides a new time slot in a market that's almost as big as Brisbane.

The only thing in NZ 2's favour is the ability to play the Fri pub game over there every week. The problem though is the team can only use Wellington for a few games in this slot due to restrictions on night games.

Out of your depth again I see

you know when the rfu went professional they approached Lindsey for a reunification
Didnt the RU world go professional at the same time? Did the whole world of union change to counteract the Warriors as well? Or was it more likely they went professional as News Ltd threw loads of cash to sign them up in 1995? Youre so full of it.

haha, NZRU went professional in 1995 because news ltd threw loads of money at them, not because of some threat from the Warriors lol

So in a small city of Perth, where are the fans coming from?
80% AFL 5% Union 5% A league..Cricket ect
There's only 2 million population that bt your admission are all tied up 🤷‍♂️

Direct ratings rival is bullshit. In 27 years The Warriors have only TWICE got close to the LOWEST rating All Blacks tests. And that's only during a finals run.

Yes it has

nzru went professional because of the threat of the warriors being formed

super rugby was formed to save ru in nz

You Australians are wrong once again. Not surprisingly. SANZAR took the game professional because Packer tried to set up a professional comp, like he did with Cricket, by signing dozens of players. You morons don't have a clue about NZ.
