If you’re excluding All Blacks you’d also have to exclude kiwis games, all stars and origin etc?
Pretty sure it does (round ten is before any origin games and no tests were played)

And the figures were only to round ten

So after a full season of both the league is way out in front

Same account no All Blacks tests played during that period

In Aus? Absolutely.
In NZ ? Warriors are top dog but it’s the only local option vs 5 local options for super rugby so of course those are likely lower- rest of NRL not so much interest outside of the anti Warriors brigade.
Most are probably watching both their super rugby team AND their NRL team it’s not one or the other
More NRL teams in NZ means there's more top club level "outlets" for active fans - ie those that get memberships, go to games, buy merchandise etc.

That matters in markets that are either geographically away from Auckland and/or want a Kiwi team to cheer for that's not the Warriors (thanks to their underperforming history)

Be interesting if/when it happens what the breakdown of Converted Warriors fans, new fans and duplicate fans would be

Few variables that mean you can interpret it a number of ways, NRL for instance has much more games so shouldn’t the cumulative audience have a much better chance to be higher?
With 5 teams vs 1 team Super Rugbys highest rated round game outrated the Warriors highest rated round game- could be argued Warriors should be 5 times higher? Or 2.5 times if 2 NZ teams are playing?
Data was not full season, did Warriors ratings slump as their form did? Did interest wane once Warriors were out of contention? Did super rugby increase in the race to the finals?
From the partial dataset released both sports increased with NRL 3 percentage points more but also stating super rugby rated higher- way too many variables to say league is way out in front

Bc the cumulative is higher it means for broadcasters the nrl is more valuable than super rugby

It looks like the bulk of the sky tv deal is for the all blacks and super rugby is just an after thought that’s tacked on

I didn’t even realise the nrl outrated super rugby

Guess the cone of silence about good rugby league news in nz is a thing

So you loop back to the start, then complain about the thread looping and going around in circles...
I'm trying to figure out if it's just a troll or you actually have no self awareness 🤔
I didn't loop back to the start, your mate did. I discussed media/data from this year to refute his statement.

The irony of the guy who started a troll thread calling someone else a troll just is pretty funny.

I have irrefutable evidence that Rugby Union is in decline- irrefutable!
...
It's shit, boring, overcomplicated bunch of nothing, complete snore fest, played by overweight non- athletes with ugly faces and ears to match.
People tune in to watch their nation compete against other nations out of patriotism the same way we watch equestrian or walking.

It's rubbish mate and to pretend otherwise proves you're a wanker trying to act sophisticated.

The proof is all the responses defending union on this thread

Like a game of Union ?
If so, my apologies.
Bro, I don't care if you don't like rugby, don't like watching it, think it's a nothing game, it really doesn't matter to me, I enjoy it. In fact, it actually gives an insight into why you can't have a rational discussion about this topic. Your hate blinds you. Me, I'm good watching and enjoying both sports so I'm pretty happy there's more people playing both league and rugby in NZ this year than last.

Lmao because I’m comparing super rugby vs nrl
Ah so you're being selective in your data set, got it lol

NRL is potentially going to overtake Super Rugby in popularity in years to come in NZ unless they change something. Presuming NZ gets at least one more club and probably would need 3 to do it.

At moment NRL gets avg around 20k people attending, Super Rugby gets around 60k avg attending a home round. IF Christchurch happens and IF its hugely successful and IF Warriors get a better stadium and IF Wellington every got a club then it would be possible we'd be approaching their attendance level. But thats a lot of If's.

TV its hard to draw conclusions from as we have very limited data, it looks like now NRL is finally on FTA that we are drawing up to Super Rugby tv audiences.

Their jewel in the crown will always be the International game though, just like our jewel will always be the domestic game.

NRL overtaking Super Rugby in popularity doesn't mean rugby league will overtake the popularity of rugby union in NZ though. You'd have to factor in participation, public profile, revenue etc to ascertain that.

If you followed the thread I said overtaking super rugby is easy (whilst overtaking union as a whole would take decades)

Someone questioned it hence my reply about super rugby v nrl

Obviously the nrl needs to work on the kiwis brand it’s worth nothing now Tv

That’s where the nrl can really cash in

The nrl down the track should be looking at proper 3 match series every yr

Ie nz v Australia
Samoa v Tonga

We should be less concerned about overtaking rugby and more about growing our pie. I don’t care if union keeps getting bigger, if we can get bigger crowds, bigger ratings and more juniors that’s what matters. It also helps reduce one of rugbys main advantages in the southern hemisphere if we can bridge that gap a bit.

Super rugby sliding backwards and the NRL taking more and more talent puts RA in a really awkward spot. We’re never going to touch unions overall popularity but that doesn’t matter.

I feel sorry for the people who build their entire personality around hating a sport and trying to insult anyone who does enjoy it.
Union fans make it very hard to like their sport.
RA Chairman said our Players couldn’t do a spelling bee
Union journalist Fitzsimmons throws cheap shots at league every week in his column and socials.
Even former wallaby and now Sports presenter Matt Burke laughed at our recent PI Tournament

Why do they have to be so mean and nasty :(
