is there a world where all 4 bids merge or even 2 of the bids merge and just call themselves "name" like orcas or kea? clearly located in south island but not necessarily having geographical identity in name or just alternatively having nz in their name like warriors do?

nz warriors - north
nz kea/orcas - south
Would be nice and I believe 2 of those bids may have merged. The Kea and the South island bid started out together, then split, so that's not happening.
We do live in a world where it's almost impossible for any bid to fail from there, essentially being the biggest Rugby club on the biggest island in the biggest Rugby nation on the planet...with a brand new state of the art stadium.
Call them whatever you want, give anyone the licence.. the chance it doesn't work is zero.

Nobody ever questioned what anyone was talking about in terms of the pacific, we all knew exactly where we were talking about and the area it referred to... like when people talk about the " west" ect..
But .. if somehow this area cast a good reflection of Rugby league’s standing...
These " rl fans lol" start to play with the boundaries of this area...
Are they going to write a letter to the government and tear up our pacific partnerships now ?
Lol
Some people can be accused of shifting the goal post.. Perth Red shifts entire f**king countries lol

It's always a frustrating argument. I'm glad the AFL get massive crowds at one particular stadium because that's literally all they'll ever have.. a niche.
We'll just have the settle for the odd 50k at Vegas, Wembley, Eden Park, Sydney, Brisbane, old Trafford ect opps almost forgot about the 90k in Melbourne lol
Except AFL had total crowds of 8.3m for 2024 while NRL had 4.8m and Super League had 1.6m for 2024.

NRL can champion that it has more TV viewers but don't argue based on crowds.

in the sporting climate theres always possibilities things dont pan out commercially i guess. warriors themselves have had some lean years financially and resurgences with good benefactors and the like. nz's financial climate for sports or otherwise isn't exactly gangbusters.

feel like the orcas bid is built on horse shit hyperbole, feel like the kea bid has a very disliked man in rugby league circles leading it and unless they punt moffet won't get a look in, feel like mana pasifika would be very difficult to manage and that leaves endacott's bid.

as 4 separate bids i feel like they all have big flaws and weaknesses. 2/3 merge then we're cooking.

Nothing stopping the nrl owning it like Perth

Financially it will be fine

Especially if they ignore Wellington and play in the stadiums in Dunedin and Christchurch

Warrior are called NZ because Auckland warriors was closed up as business. If they only playing in new Christchurch stadium being called island doesn't hurt.

honestly cant see nrl owning 2 expansion clubs simultaneously. i can see them owning 1 for 7-10 years then selling it off, then owning another for 7-10 years and selling that off. yes they have revenue and profits at a record mark right now but they still arent in a position to prop 2 brand new clubs (not existing clubs with existing infrastructure like knights/titans - big difference) at the same time.

maybe there might be a 1year-18 month cross over i guess.

Much of the NRL were in financial difficulty for a long time but look around.. the NRL are growing massively year on year, financially, crowds, viewers and we are now in a position where all clubs despite their standing are financially viable... that's clubs in crowded markets with poor performances, poor crowds..still profitable.
There's no chance a new club in the games biggest growth area, that's consistently selling out trial matches.. at an old stadium.. with teams that they aren't even part of the history... failing in a brand new stadium with their own team?
There's 4 bids for a reason mate.. that's more than Brisbane had..
