Olympian set to join Melbourne Storm early​

All Blacks sevens representative Moses Leo is in line to join the Storm ahead of schedule.
Leo was originally set to join Melbourne's NRL squad from the 2026 season after inking a two-year deal in September.

The 27-year-old confirmed his exit via Instagram,

"Just want to say thank you to [New Zealand Rugby], [New Zealand Sevens] and [North Harbour Rugby Union] for giving me a space to grow, thrive and showcase my abilities to the world," Leo wrote.

"To all the people who've helped me in my journey through rugby in NZ, coaches, teammates, friends and family, I wouldn’t be living this dream without you and your ongoing support.

"I truly love all the teams I’ve had the pleasure to serve and am excited for what's to come. In a bit NZ."

He signed the message off with a lightning bolt emoji, indicating an impending move to the Storm.

Melbourne winger and former New Zealand rugby sevens player Will Warbrick also commented on the post, writing: "See you soon"

He has also played for Kiwi provincial championship side North Harbour.

The Storm's recruitment team have identified Leo as a player who can "fill a number of outside back positions, including wing, centre and fullback".

Very odd seeing North Islander Dean Bell playing for the South but IIRC he was a guest player in his UK off season.

Don't know many of those other players outside of Wallace, Tuuta, Faimalo, and Bancroft (who got into trouble with the law later in life).

Not sure his temperament would have suited the Warriors long term outside of possible spike (see Daniel Anderson for example).
The way he jumped ship for NSW then quickly the Broncs would have meant he would have been unlikely to stick around long term anyways which is what the Warriors need

Yep. He's great for short stints with people who can already play but... teaching players how to play.. bit of a fizzer.
There's probably enough " players " at the Broncos to up the myth for some time to come.

South island rep teams are usually predominantly white with some black, current league team uses those colours.
’North Island’ and ‘South Island’ don’t tend to be consistent rep teams in higher profile sports to get a consistent colour scheme. In my lifetime I only remember a hand full of North v South Cricket and Union games that don’t tend to stick around despite the occasional effort to bring them back. Last one I remember was a Union game over COVID when borders were closed
