New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

NRL has been way ahead of the curve with concussion protocols (indeed I would say it’s a huge overreaction)

People who think rugby league will be hugely impacted by this have rocks in their head

Union might need to eliminate contested scrums though
Scrums rarely result in concussions.
Tackling is the issue in both codes.no way RU gets rid of contested scums, the Northern hemisphere teams love the love that shit

taking away Tongans from games in Oz and NZ and the crowds are poor.
Except for that sold out Kiwis v Roos game in Christchurch?

Oh and that 23k for NZ v Samoa last year?

Oh and the 18k for Aus v Samoa last year?

I guess the 32k at Suncorp this year we're all Tongan? No Aussie fans in the house?

I know you get sensitive when people talk up Rugby league over union on a Rugby League forum but that is a poor take.

“No-one in rugby league was prepared to offer an iron-clad guarantee PNG would be announced before Christmas but well-placed sources indicate it is almost certain.
Once the 18th and 19th sides are named, the race starts for the 20th license with the Christchurch-based Southern Orcas early favourites.”
The Dolphins
Western Bears
Southern Orcas

These are all very vague, uninspiring names. Nothing wrong with Redcliffe (thanks for that QRL), W.A. or Perth and South Island or Christchurch

dolphins should have been east coast dolphins but i agree with nrl and qrl that using redcliffe would have been a poor choice in this era.

redcliffe is a small area within a wider region. at least east coast there would have been better synergy with sunshine coast and surrounding areas. the dolphins as a full brand title just seems lazy.

dont think bears will land as western. i think perth is most likely the final name. just a vibe though.

Mate, I don't care if people talk up league, I outlined a proposal to improve league in NZ two pages ago. But let's not pretend all is well with international league and that crowds are outstanding.

Do you actually think 18k is good for an international in Oz? The sell out in Chch was 17k. The Tongan fans (and some Aussies) deserting Commbank ... The poor crowd for last year's final?

Stadium in Wellington is a huge negative
I know some others have also said this but the Caketin isn't as bad as continually gets made out, it's a small ground so you're not far from the field - I daresay that the corners at the Caketin are a better viewing experience than most rectangular stadiums.

Now the weather, that's another thing, terrible place if it's wet and windy (and it's nearly always windy), they really need to make an indoor stadium next time.

Even the weather is somewhat overstated- if it’s wet and windy then sure it’s crap, but Wellingtonians are used to the wind and it doesn’t rain as much as Auckland. But yeah, a fully covered rectangular stadium sure would be nice and should be the next thing Wellington gets- I’m sure they can boost the capacity of the Basin enough to make it suitable for one dayers if necessary.

I'm not a Wellingtonian so not used to it. :)

But yeah agree, just build a new rectangle and play all cricket at that big roundabout.

Be interesting to see, I think the govt and nrlwa will be pushing for something more inclusive of the whole state whilst nrl may prefer perth. The media are still using western bears and cumins has said he won’t stand in way so he may be willing to hand the Tm of that over.
always preferred ‘west coast bears‘ myself.

png will be interesting, likey they go with png somethings

christchurch - South Island orcas would be good and left Wellington as neutral ground for warriors and orcas to take games to and fight over For now, with an eventual wellington team in time to come. Warriors to revert back to Auckland warriors When Wellington come in.

10 to 15k in there is an awful look and no atmosphere

It’s depressing to watch games on tv from there

Scrums do have the potential for neck injuries but front rowers have to prove competence to be able to scrum, the pack is also trained on ‘Mayday protocols’ which minimise risk when things become unsafe.
They’ve gone way overboard on Tackle height and head contact in Union which is a major factor in the downward appeal when the biggest area of concern is ruckwork

The people that get all worked up about its shape have likely never actually been there. Used to go to multiple games a year when I lived there between Union/league/cricket and never had any complaints about the views, it’s better that at least half and probably closer to 3/4 of what the NRL use.
Can be bloody freezing with the swirling wind in the dead of winter but the wind factor can add a unique element to the home team. Also been in torrential rain where I was ankle deep in water that wasn’t too pleasant
