Even the weather is somewhat overstated- if it’s wet and windy then sure it’s crap, but Wellingtonians are used to the wind and it doesn’t rain as much as Auckland. But yeah, a fully covered rectangular stadium sure would be nice and should be the next thing Wellington gets- I’m sure they can boost the capacity of the Basin enough to make it suitable for one dayers if necessary.
I lived there about 6 years (as well as visiting family growing up most years) and I don’t think I ever got used to it, Summers nice enough but winters were brutal although one was the year it snowed a few years back. Was a bit of a tease having some nice spots by the Water on oriental parade/lyall bay/Petone but the sea was always way too cold to swim in lol

10 to 15K in most 35K stadiums looks crap.
get 25K+ in there and the atmosphere is great.
Remember they haven’t had a game since the Wahs bandwagon got rolling.
Were talking about a regular team there not one offs

Realistically a 15k crowd average would be what a Wellington based side would get

If we can't get a rectangular stadium anytime soon, then can we AT LEAST get those bright yellow seats replaced with a seating design that makes smaller crowds far less conspicuous??

The Orcas name is owned by a Wellington club - I think it’s part of the package that it’ll be a bid that represents Wellington in some capacity.
Orcas is the name of the current Wellington PROVINCIAL rugby league team, not one of the local clubs - and the fact that it's popped up as the branding for a Christchurch-based team is intriguing.

Even though that bid has branding as Southern Orcas and not Christchurch Orcas or South Island Orcas & they're saying they play a game/games each season in Wellington, if the Southern Orcas bid is successful then that prevents a potential future Wellington bid under the Orca branding.

Now that's a bit odd, given how Redcliffe fought hard to protect their brand & leave the door open for THEM to be the NRL's Dolphins as soon as the "Gold Coast Dolphins" bid emerged in the mid 2000s - forcing the Gold Coast to re-work their brand into Titans.

Does the WRL (Wellington Rugby League) not fancy their chances at ever having a Wellington based NRL team? Or are they just not THAT attached to the Orca branding?

The people that get all worked up about its shape have likely never actually been there. Used to go to multiple games a year when I lived there between Union/league/cricket and never had any complaints about the views, it’s better that at least half and probably closer to 3/4 of what the NRL use.
Can be bloody freezing with the swirling wind in the dead of winter but the wind factor can add a unique element to the home team. Also been in torrential rain where I was ankle deep in water that wasn’t too pleasant
I’ve been there, it was fine - but it was a party atmosphere with dress up and everyone on the drink. A 7s weekend trip about a dozen years ago. I think it was the last one before they started to clean it up.
Anyway the ground was fine for watching rectangular games I thought. Plus the marching band was outstanding.

We stayed in Lower Hutt in a mates cousins house (they were away that weekend), his other cousins from Petone took us into the ground and picked us up and into the city for dinner and more drinks. Gave us a car for the few days afterwards that we were there.

Great people we only copped minimal shit for supporting Oz.
