lol it’s been years since I’ve heard of those Aertex shirts they all wear- was the same in the bay with all the orchardists like it was some unofficial uniform.
Can’t see too many skinheads and wizards wearing them though

It could be all talk, but if this is real and they start implementing a training academy in chch, early next year, and moreso down the track, just like what grima was task to do with png, (and remember he set up 6 in every major populous in png) then they'll get the nod, this the stuff arlc want from their bidders, and of course a willingness to spend thier money on a licence fee, aswell as spending their funds on youth academies to filter thru to what could be their NRL franchise,
Too many bidders are mouth peices, and moneymen, need to see tangible pathways, unless your an already established league club like dolphins were, this is what they searching for. This was why I could see the Endacott bid being the favourite, coz they are the local presence down there, and if they got the investment behind them they'll be the 20th, but if orcas a doing it all alone then it seems there would be no need for merging with the SI bid

Perth had yet to show any of this, other than their existing park footy comp, but given their premier is about to fork out WA govt money to set up those similar academies there in Perth, that ticks a crucial box to get them over the line with the ARLC, and the Bears will parachute those kids in for the meantime

Warriors owner Mark Robinson believe the game is 10 to 15 years away from being able to expand into New Zealand with a second team to rival the Warriors.

Moffett disagrees.

He's not wrong but shouldn't be anywhere near the NRL. I mean here is his latest ramblings on LinkedIn just this week, angling for Welsh Rugby Union clubs to call an EGM and get voted as CEO (and wants to cull a professional side again... a genuine mad man).

Hi Matua - I'm from NZ live in ChCh. And have played both Union & Leauge - Many years ago, I played 1st X1 for my school ON A WEDNESDAY - then played for my PREMIER League side on EITHER Sat or SUNDAY at Addington Stadium. My son did exactly the same thing.
I agree with you re the us and them. I posted that exact thing a few posts ago. Over here (NZ) they are totally inter-changeable.

So did you play soccer on a Wednesday and league on the weekend? What school were you at (one of the big rugby schools?), and what day was rugby played?

Being a CanTab I would like it to be led by at least a South Islander. Lowe & Chambers are both North Islanders, at least Moffet lives in Canterbury, and North Islanders have the habit of thinking we (South Islanders) don't know how to do things lol - in business or sport.
That is til Razor Robertson came along and won x 7 Super titles IN A ROW. Our relationship is a lot like NSW v QLD in ALL things.

That's an odd comment considering the Crusaders were by far the most successful Super team long before Razor arrived as coach. I think the NI knew that you SI'ers were competent before Razor arrived.

Interesting comments about the domestic game in Chch though, my mates down there don't think it's in as good shape as you do, but they might just be focusing on the premier comp and not the lower grades.

My ex son-inlaw and his brother both came up thru ChCh league scene. Both became Junior warriors - both became Junior Kiwis. Went to Aus. couldn't crack the Sydney hive, went to Newcastle trailed for their NSW team - couldn't crack that !! ended up spending 10 years playing bush footy for Cessnock and surrounds. I think at least back in early 2000s Kiwis found it hugely difficult to break into the NRL systems.. sad because there was at that time a huge amount of great talent that went "Bush" and vanished.

Yeah, I was involved with a Maori sports charity back in the day (circa 2006-2013) so got to know a bunch of the young guys going over for U20s and I don't think many of them actually made it through to first grade.

In case you haven't found it there's an NZ section of the forum, where we discuss NZ and Warriors stuff - I mostly just complain that no one cares about the Kiwis and the Warriors select too many Aussies.

I wasn't saying it's not a valid point, rather, like your post on this page points out for another point, it was old news.

Doubling the opportunities for NRL pathways and Top 30 positions is only a positive for the game in NZ in my view ..

of course they should and would try to improve the domestic game ,,, but I don’t think the growth of the Canterbury Competition will make much difference to their NRL team … they will have the 5 feeder teams playing in the NRL branded competitions like the Warriors have finally started to..

I've always agreed it's a positive, I just don't think the state of the domestic game across the country can be ignored. League being a niche sport based in the Warriors part of Auckland and Chch where all the feeder teams are isn't ideal for me (I'm not from those two areas, as aren't 3m other NZers).

I think we all rocked an Aertex in the Bay at some stage, even us non orchardist/farmers/Lindersfarne students.
