The whole ‘Warriors have an entire nation to pick from’ Is a myth- this assumes
A: no other club recruits from NZ
B:Warriors have first pick of NZers
On both counts they’re competing against 16 other clubs- yes they SHOULD have an advantage but history has shown they don’t
The same can be said for NQ, yet at one point half the Knights backline was NQ born or produced players.

No club has a monopoly on local juniors.

The bold is the potential number of juniors, but it's not real, most rugby kids are going to play rugby still, NZ2 will help keep some of the NZ junior league players in NZ if run properly, but your dreams of a NZ Penrith wont work if the grassroots game is an afterthought.

Why shouldn't the NRL fund it? If league is in such good shape as you point out, and NZ is a supposed sleeping giant of league as you point out, then surely the NRL can use some of it's mammoth wealth to invest in the grassroots of NZ? The NRL is not a for profit, surely investing in the grassroots of the area of one/two of it's teams would be a priority?
The nzrl is a separate body which controls its own territory

Nrl has no jurisdiction over it other than the warriors

They could increase funding to the nzrl but they aren’t accountable for it

They could offer to join the nrl like wa did

And why wouldn’t they get loads of union juniors they did when the under 20s was happening

We aren’t talking about competing for established players

Especially if the money and pathway to professional rugby is more sure in league

The whole reason they are talking about nz2 is because league is doing well

They wouldn’t be doing it if the game was on its arse would they

You want grassroots before nrl

Reality is it will be top down and trickle down

Under Pvl the nrl is all about profit and asset accumulation

Aim is for one billion in assets

You think maybe that’s a warriors specific problem

Maybe getting a panthers assistant coach will help the club focus on its under 16 to under 21 and reserve grades etc

Copy Penrith

Warriors have next to no control that 16 other clubs source players from their territory, they don’t have a monopoly on the players - thus don’t ’have An entire country’

Should change the name of the club then shouldn’t they to south Auckland

They should have development officers all around nz spotting the best kids and getting them under contract

You’re saying Aussie clubs which are thousands of km away can do a better job than the local club.

What’s that say ?

Orcas have said they will have academies all over nz with hundreds of kids in them

Why don’t the warriors have something similar

“A group bidding for a Christchurch NRL franchise plans to roll out 22 regional academies across New Zealand from 2025, catering for up to 2200 student athletes.

The Southern Orcas say the programme will “guarantee a production line of talent’’ for the new club and the NRL as a whole with up to 100 students in each centre.”

The first regional centres are expected to open in the first half of 2025, with Christchurch expected to be the first base. The proposal would also see academies in Otago, Southland, the West Coast and the Tasman districts in the South Island and North Island regions, from Wellington to Auckland.“

Why don’t the warriors do this ?

Competition is good we will see how poorly the warriors are run

Probably comes down to money - the Warriors have a smaller operating budget than most other clubs with no leagues club grant propping them up, and I don’t think our owner’s pickets are as deep as some of the other clubs with rich backers.

Hey you guys

Is this happening irrespective of the orcas being accepted as NZ2 or is it on the condition of them being team #20?

Nope only orcas have suggested it

And to be honest I don’t trust chalmers to pull it off so the arlc need guarantees

The arl for png and Perth did ensure heavy investment in juniors as a condition for the bids being accepted so nz2 will have to do a lot here (dolphins promised to spend 2 million pa extra on grassroots)

There's no team that has an immediate geographical pull that fields a whole team except maybe the Broncos.
Some have next to none like Storm and Roosters.
Wellington per cap are probably on par with some of the best nurseries in the world and obviously wouldn't rely solely on Wellington. Of course with a team and a direct pathway would drastically increase their production also.

I don't really know what you're point is..
So even after explicitly stating my point you still don't really know kind of validates it.

So you're validating points which aren't known...content?... within your own paradox?

So, let's get this right:
You made a statement, which wasn't clear as to the intended point at which you were making, as a question " what was the point?" ... now proves said point..?
And did all this by stating the players that Dubbo has contributed to the NRL.
Incredible.

You're a blast 💛

I would like to see PVL buy some assets while keeping the NRLs ownership undisclosed via a company trust.

The assets could be a few Hotels in & around the MCG. Ones that AFL players & fans frequent so that we can then profit from their game.
While potentially feasible, unlike a private family business that is able to keep such things secret through various corporate structures and nominees, probably a bit harder for an entity like the NRL to keep such secrets. Someone from within the NRL, an employee of the establishment acquired or a journalist will blab or find out and will be in the press straight away.

Wonder how much its costing and whose paying for it and for how long?
Even at $200k an academy, which seems probably too small an amount, it'd be $4.5mil a year forever out of the clubs budget.

That’s what I was wondering. What actually constitutes an academy? Because 200K isn’t going to pay for much more than one full time employee and the rent on basic training facilities.
