Most Aussies couldn’t tell you who/where the NZ or SA teams represented/came from.

Sharks vs Highlanders?
Blues vs Bulls?

I knew an old fella (he was a club doyen, played NSW and Wallabies) who used to have a laminated card in his wallet listing the teams’ logos and regional names, so he knew who was playing.

I laughed when a regional comp - NSW, QLD, ACT, WESTERN AUSTRALIA brought in the Melbourne Rebels, not VICTORIA.
To be fair that’s just being a bit ignorant from those fans- it literally takes 5 seconds to find out where teams are from. People from outside of Sydney generally have zero idea where the likes of Penrith/st George/Cronulla are, nor do those outside of Melbourne have a clue where Hawthorn/St Kildare and other suburbs are

The new clubs lacked identity, the comp changed too often and it dropped off the cliff. So yep I agree.

Most of the clubs in Sydney don’t even know what areas they represent
"Most"?
Penrith, Cronulla, Manly, Parra, Canterbury supporters are by the large representative of their areas.
The other 4: Roosters, Tigers Dargons, Souths, have an "all area" feel, whether by choice or forced to, that's the real question.

I think the issue was they were always referred to by their nicknames and not their regions. So no one really knew who those teams were representing.
And to be fair, in Sydney, Shute Shield held more importance than the Super 15.

Dogs moved ti Homebush whilst having eyes on Liverpool

Tigers are all over Sydney

Dragons pay lip service to kogarah being based in Wollongong

Souths are a western Sydney team looking to back home

And the roosters think they are Sydney lol

The Dogs still represent their traditional area.
They are on the traditional side.
The rest, well you're pretty much on the money.

What should happen

Dragons 9 games at gong and 3 games at Allianz

Tigers 9 games at cambelltown and 2 games at Allianz and one lo

Souths back to the sfs / Allianz

Dogs with a stadium in Liverpool which is next to their area in Bankstown / belmore

Roosters name back to eastern suburbs

Central stadiums are ok for some games but clubs need a proper identity

The new guy from Cronulla looks likely to take that role. Couple of years ago I’d been keen on Smith but listening to the way the guy conducts himself on his podcast I’ve gone off him- if he came I can’t help but feel it’d be one of those dreaded ‘retirement packages’ we used to be famous for
Who's the new guy from Cronulla? Did I miss a signed?

Smith has a podcast? From the sounds of it best that I don't listen to it. :)

Sam Healey- sorry he’s an Aussie journeyman ;) , apparently rated fairly highly but stuck behind incumbents- at least he plays hooker I guess.
Yeah Brandon Smith has a podcast with James Graham Jam and Cheese, listened to a couple as I used to not mind Graham but between Smith presumably being stoned most episodes Graham seems to have a been in his bonnet about NZ (might still be pissed about 2013 we semi?) and oblivious to the dragons not being contenders I stopped listening to it a while back
