Not at all, Ive got no doubt he's only on board because of NS and the WA Govt $'s.
He an opportunistic leader, not a strategic one. Probably why, bringing it back to the thread!, he seems less keen on NZ2 at moment, there isn't a lot of $'s in it for NRL.
So Pvl isn’t a great leader

But Perth must be a good idea for an nrl team since he supports it

Your fb group must be a real hoot if you post like you do here

I dont believe in black and whites. Hes done some good stuff, hes done some gash stuff. Overall do I think the NRL is in a good place, yes.
Do I think NRL has changed to a strategic forward thinking org, not really from what I've seen.

If you believe in the game growing beyond its traditional boundaries then yes me and others who think that way believe Perth (and Christchurch) is a good option, but done badly as usual. There should have been a strategic plan for it a decade ago that is ready to bare fruit about now. Instead its purely opportunistic decision based on a Govt coming and along pushing it up the agenda with very little work done as it should have been.

Yeh that international expansion plan has been so poorly thought out and executed

It's a genuine concern that not one expansion bid without massive government funding has been considered so far.

We have all been told that owning a club is a licence to print money.
Like I said NRL are purely opportunistic. There has been no expansion strategy, no planning, no foundational work.
If Feds and WA govt hadnt come along with big $'s we wouldn't be talking about expansion.

And tbf the WA consortium were prepared to invest $50mill in a license. That is unheard of in RL before.

lol, what do you think changed between the years the ARLC largely ignored Int RL and ;ast couple of years? Some amazing change of policy and strategy?
Nope it was purely opportunistic and the Feds giving them a few million to develop the pacific tournament. No hand out no Int RL change.

We can safely assume PNG wouldn't even be included without Albo's cash, and now it looks like Perth is knife edge depending on how much tax dollars go towards it.

If Vlandys walks away from $50mill private investment (already done) PLUS whatever the WA govt IS offering to grow the game in WA and support a new NRL clubs then its a very questionable move. I cant see it. Why would you? UNLESS NRL has little intention of going to 20 clubs anytime soon and they were playing the field in case PNG fell over?

Doesnt bode well for NZ2 does it?

The first two have happened 100% because of Feds throwign the NRL a shed load of money. No money no go.
Thats not strategy, thats opportunity.

You think Pvl having an idea then getting the govt to pay for it is a bad thing ? (Pacific cup)

And png he milked the Feds big time for extra concessions

And Las Vegas what govt money was invested in that etc

This really is poor trolling

Funny reading people who in the past said Vlandys had no vision to grow game, now dismiss the huge developments like Las vegas, expansion at both ends of Australia and government funding as mere cash grab. This is personal to them I guess?!

You're the gronk talking about Vegas in an expansion thread lol. No one else has mentioned it as its irrelevant.

There has been no long term strategy for growing the pacific or for growing the Int game. This only happened as a funding opportunity too good to turn down came along.
To suggest the NRL is some amazing long term strategic thinking org led by a man with incredible vision is laughable.

haha course it is, Vegas is a sugary cup cake.
I mean the American interest and RL game over there is going to boom off the back of it I'm sure. Only a matter of time until NY join the NRL eh.
