A man from Hull living in Perth that follows RL... researching the Swans to share in a NZ thread...are you pissed?
Get a bloody life.
If you like AFL, there's nothing wrong with that but maybe find some AFL friends?

I thought he might be happy to concentrate now on his own teams formative period ….. but no ….an AFL team 4000kms away still upmost on his mind …

I wonder if the NRL will take same Perth approach and if they go with South Island over Ipswich that they will start it up and initially own it? They could be using Perth as a pilot for the model. Presuming we are looking at around 2032/33 for admission (so announcement 2030/31) of club 20 Perth will be about at the timeline for handing over to independent ownership and the NRL will have seen if the model works.

I’ve been saying that for a while, transition out of Perth ownership and in to a South Island team if none of the bids stack up by then. If not Ipswich is right there if the NRL doesn’t have the appetite to do it again.

WA and bears were willing partners. Situation may not exist in NZ.

yep really struggling lol. 9 clubs in Sydney havent stopped AFL carving out a niche.
If its 3 or 4 In SEQ equally wont make any difference to the Lions.
There's lots of strong arguments for a 3rd Brisbane club, a false belief that it will somehow kill AFL in Qlnd isnt one of them.

Swans 2024:
Key items contributing to the financial outcome for the year include:
  • Operating income increasing year-on-year by 19% to $73.2million
  • 75,152 Sydney Swans members, which is a new club record
  • Average home game attendances of more than 38,000 at the SCG
  • Membership and match day revenue of $19m (up from $18.2in 2023)
  • Strong on-field performance highlighted by 17 home-and-away match wins, two home final wins and a Grand Final appearance in the men’s competition
Wow, did you cum when you posted that?

It's funny living in Sydney the swans feel irrelevant.

Good point, and that "relay" time frame - selling the Perth Bears then establishing a NRL owned/operated Christchurch club COULD cascade on to an NRL owned Adelaide club circa 2038 (to be sold in early to mid 2040s) when Christchurch's club is sold.

That would mean at least 3 iterations of that build/own/sell model, and plenty of scope to take the lessons learned each time to refine that process.

I can't see the NRL taking that on with two clubs simultaneously, so such a staggered approach with NZ 2 as team 20, then Adelaide or Fiji as one of teams 21 & 22 makes sense.

Adding a 3rd Brisbane club as the other team in that 21/22 phase ( alongside the 3rd iteration of build/own/sell that's something like Adelaide or Fiji) balances the risk in that phase because surely another Brisbane club could be locally owned from the get-go - and may even be as straightforward as effectively promoting a Qld Cup club (ala the Dolphins).
