I've seen a few threads in other sections about 'origin' sides from different places.
Here is my Newcastle 'origin' side.

Greg Inglis
Albert
Matt Gidley
Kurt Gidley
Tahu
Kimmorley
Johns
Perry
Buderus
Tupou
Willie Mason
Simpson
Newton

Abraham
Woolnough
John Morris
Tilse

Kimmorley? The biggest origin choker of all time? You are telling jokes.

5/8th would be Kurt Gidley before Kimmorley.

If Kurt played 5/8th then I'd put Adam MacDougall in the centres.

Adam MacDougall is the major omission. I'd actually put Brett Finch (*shudders) ahead of Kimmorley in an Origin side. Kimmorley will go down as the most over-rated Origin player ever. The real tragedy is that his club form, at times, has been incredible.

Mad Dog at fullback for Inglis, Morris at pivot for Kimmorley, Inglis back to the bench for Morris, and Kimmorley out of the team.

Kimmorley should never play for any team that has the word 'origin' attached to it, ever again.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but does the word Origin in your post mean origin in terms of 'Newcastle Origin', not 'State of Origin'?

Yeah Dilly it does. Many of the players it Roopy's team have never played SOO. However, I still think Kimmorley would be a risk, if his real 'origin' form is anything to go by!

Newcastle origin - which means McDougall and Kennedy are out.

Finch, Ennis, Scott Hill, Franze, Bird, Polglase, Craigie, Feeney are others that could be considered.

A borderline one is Mark O'Meley - he comes from the Wyong area, which was not part of the Newcastle area when he left it, but it is now.

Wasn't Maddog originally from Singleton or somewhere up the valley?

If maddog is out, then I'd whack Scotty Hill at pivot and leave the rest of the team the way it is.

Kimmorley has been consistantly one of the best players in the NRL for the last 10 years or so.
He has been MOTM for Aus on more than one occasion.
He isn't Johns, but he isn't bad either.

Agreed. But there's a at least one more thing he isn't... namely, a five-eighth.

I'd rather a specialist / experienced pivot (ie Hill, Morris or even Kidley) in there instead of the intercept pass king.

im guessing the players have to still currently be playing the game to be included in this?

If it were a greatest ever Newcastle side you would have to include a lot of others.

Churchill
Tahu
M Gidley
Les Johns
Brian Carlsen
Matt Johns
Andrew Johns
Chief
Buderus
Sattler
Grame Wynne
Adam Muir
Coote

Peter Wynne
Simpson
Bobby Bugden
Sarge

Scott Hill is a better 5/8th than Morris will ever be. Morris has had a good season and would be an excellent utiility / interchange player. Roopys Team looks good except fullback put Seage and swap Hill for Kimmorley then put Kimmorley into half back and put Joey into hooker - the way it used to be in state of Origin. Danny can be handy to keep the bench warm to a-la Craig Wing / impact player.

..... LOL to all you Kimmorley haters.

Going way too far back now old man ;-)
I've probably missed some obvious Newcastle players - but Churchill, Carlsen and Les Johns are all immortals - Sattler is considered the toughest player ever - every player in the side played for Australia - Churchill was considered the greatest player ever before Andrew Johns took the title away from him.
It is a pretty decent side.

Buderus is out too -- Taree is further away than Wyong.
Simpson is out too -- Broke is too far away.
Darren Albert (Scone) is further away still.

i don't think thats all that generous, especially since there's no 1st grade team closer than newcastle to any of those players either.
