The chairman and executive director of Macquarie Radio Network has confirmed Radio 2UE will ditch its news radio roots and move to a new show format, with paid-for lifestyle content set to feature as the struggling station looks to increase revenue.

Ha - good point.

I actually find it sad, but unfortunately, the demand for quality news radio just evidently isn't there any more.

It is interesting seeing the fall from a seemingly unassailable position.

It shows the power of personalities- Hadley and the footy callers leaving and then Jones. Also shows the shrewdness of Singleton - paying a reported small fortune for these two but leaving the "king of radio" behind. 2gb never looked back and 2ue is all but gone.

Seems there is now only room for one commercial am station in Sydney. The old increasing share of a diminishing market adage is appropriate.

2UE's audience is still weirdly strong in the 40+ market and now that they have branded themselves as an alternative to GB, who knows what could happen.

the Whole station is now and advertorial or sponsored content.

Any brand marketing to 40+ would love to jump on an integrated, engaged section "brought to you by" every 5 mins.

doubt it would cost much either.

Interesting move imo, whether it works remains to be seen.
