I am not too fussed about the AFL deal. We all know its just a backlash message against Dave Smith/Channel 9 and the AFL will most likely just spend their extra funds on NSW/QLD development which is pretty much going to be a financial waste in the short to long term period.

Dave Smith better grow a pair and play hardball with Foxtel and Telstra. Murdoch declared war against Rugby League. 2 Billion is a dream and that is what I would be pushing for but I think we will get around 1.5 Billion
I just hope that Dave Smith has a good plan seeing as he has potentially screwed the NRL over with backdoor deals.

Looking forward to the Media Stories.. Already some goodens....

1.5 would require all the other parties involved to not up their payments at all, that's not going to happen.

So $925 million from Free to Air

So even if the rights for NZ, Digital and Foxtel are the same as last time (which they won't be)
thats
NZ- $100m
Telstra- $150m
Fox - $550m

Thats $800 MILLION so $1.725 billion without break a sweat

I would say the Telstra rights would be an extra $100 Mill, NZ- AN extra $50 mill which gets you up to almost $1.9 billion and this assume fox doesen't pay any extra which I think they will.

As part of FOx paying extra I think we will see 2 extra teams and Monday night games will stay. THe NRL said they will go as a threat to Fox to now pay a lot more for them

The biggie is fox, they have lost their two most watched game slots as shown in graph above. I think the only way we are going to get a significant increase from them is expansion and Monday night but that is. 5 night week of RL. Great for couch potatoes but shite for real fans that want to go to see their club.

Also we should take out the NZ deal when comparing ourselves to the afl deal in a dick measure, we are comparing Australian content, not money the codes will have. Why should afl, despite less viewers get more money for Australian content than nrl. I'm sick of accepting second best, it devalues our game in public perception.

Predictable garbage from Kent, so blatant it was embarrassing. It's going to be brilliant watching/listening to hack journos throw the toys out of the cot between now and deal time. The more this is developing, the more I'm liking where we stand.

until a team is placed there and is actively supported, i don't think so.

you did try though, i will award you 4/10 for your efforts.

Okay so 2 non perth sides pack the stadium and you think that counts for nothing
Bright spark.
Go watch your AFL f**kwit.

Bullshit. They're going to be getting more content. Fox actually GAINED more viewers (not necessarily subscriptions) for their AFL matches when they got simulcasting. What do you think they're going to get, when they get their most watched program an extra 3 times a week? They're going to have bigger numbers on Thursday night, Friday night and Sunday afternoon now. They've lost some exclusivity, but they're gaining more content.

We're going to get a massive deal still, and we don't need a team in Perth to do it, as the last TV rights negotiations showed us.

I'm guessing you were probably on here saying that the only way the NRL will come close to the AFL is with expansion, prior to the last TV deal.

And we're comparing media rights deals. Just because the AFL can't get anyone outside of Australia interested in their game, doesn't mean we have to put on gloves when comparing deals.

Is anyone else just loving the fact that the gloves are finally off and that there are no more hidden agendas, they're all out in the open.

I'm actually enjoying all of this NewsCorp manufactured drama.

At the next presser Smith fronts he needs to borrow one of those Manly banners to prop up behind himself.

I know it happens in the NFL, but you can't have Thursday night & Monday night in the NRL - not enough teams ( even if they did expand to 18 ). Especially with a lot of the same teams being pencilled in by Channel 9 on Thursday & Friday night ( don't be naive & think the NRL will have complete control of the schedule ).

If Fox Sports acquire simulcasts for the 4 FTA games, the Ch9 deal will drop to $800m.

Whilst that's true, we don't lose any actual cash flow. We lose contra value. And I don't think we have $125million worth of contra with just channel 9.

Of course Fox might say, well we spent all our money on the AFL and the best we can do now is $400m. Take it or leave it.

And Kent and Wilson will say I told you so.

Or..

The NRL are way smarter then anyone thinks and they have some super plan and at least one Ace up there sleeves to either make Fox come crawling back with a monster offer that matches the AFL's - or bigger, or they have another option we don't know about to generate another Billion from some unknown source.

Being that it has come across as such a snub by the NRL, perhaps they do really want to rid themselves on the what some think has been the codes curse...News Ltd?

Questions, questions, questions. And no easy answers. Just conjecture. Rumours. Heresay. Guesses. Thoughts. Stabs. Baseless claims. Maybe even lies.

In time, all will be revealed, much like a Poirot murder case. All in due time...

They're backed by the biggest media conglomerate in the world. They have the money and will pay what ever the NRL can negotiate out of them.

Promise. They are going to pay more than what they are paying now. How much more is what can be pulled out of them. And we have great people in place to get as much as we can get.
