What hate?

Murdoch declared a preference - what else would you expect from a bloke from Adelaide.

And he was having a dig at the ARLC members who were in the room and had pissed him off a bit.

Nothing more.

Which commissioners went to the announcement?? its a wierd event to turn up to...

it's all f**king nonsense!

Pretty sure that the game had the least confidence in Gallop and every time a tv deal would roll around he would ignore going to tender and instead quietly extend with news corp for another 6 years, like a good little lap dog, going up a floor of the old NRLHQ in the News ltd building to sign off on the deal. While later that year the AFL announce a $700m deal thanks to packer being on his deathbed.

I truly worry for the world when idiots read this shit and lap it up.

News got the game for cheap under it's ownership of the code and now it's time for them to pay up it's simple as that. News ruined the code for it's own gain set it back 20 years and now the code got it's independence back and is standing up for itself, News is chucking a tantrum.

Why expansion is the trump card as NRL chases broadcast money
Adrian Proszenko Fairfax

Expansion is shaping as a potential trump card for the NRL as it seeks to add value to the remaining product left to sell off to broadcasters.

Global Media and Sports boss Colin Smith, who worked for the NRL on the last TV deal and has also advised the AFL and ARU in previous negotiations, believes the NRL will be "lucky" to get within $1 billion of the Australian rules deal unless expansion occurs.

Existing clubs are concerned the NRL has sold itself short after signing a $925 million deal with Nine, which alienated long-term partners Foxtel, News Corp and Telstra. The AFL has been the biggest beneficiary of the scorned media partners, quickly inking a $2.5 billion deal of its own over six years. Several clubs are holding off on signing new participation agreements.
"We have always held a strong view that a Central Coast team with the backing of the Bears brand and support base will give significant incremental value to the game," Perry said.
"We will be seeking the opportunity to reinforce this with the NRL executives and commission over the coming weeks with supporting and relevant research data to highlight the Bears being a solution to enhance the game."

"There is a lot in it for the broadcasters in expanding the game. When you look at Queensland you've got south-east Queensland, the Titans and then you jump all the way up to Townsville, with this enormous gap in the middle that is rugby league land.
"If something is not done about it the area will be lost to one of the other sports, possibly the AFL now they have so much money. They have already said they would look at expanding into [league heartlands]."

Hmm that makes some sense but from what I can tell even if the NRL hits their 1.7b target the increase from the current deal to this new one is still not as big as the increase the AFL has just got from their current deal to their new one. We have to wait and see but that's IF they make their target which means they need to find another 800million or thereabouts.

Now I may not be an expert but if the AFL rights are increasing at a higher rate then the NRL rights it can only mean the NRL is falling further behind the AFL or they have bungled something.

NRL has higher ratings. If the AFL got 1.3 billion why should NRL accept less?

One consolation, panic in the forum for however long it takes Murdoch to get sick of winding up dolls is preferable to the Lol@Souths wankers who will undoubtedly come out of the woodwork again when the Rabbitohs fail to repeat last year

Did RL fans in Sydney same the same about the Swans in 1982? They went from initial 12k crowds to current 30k (best live supported prof sports team in Sydney).
Just wondering?

Haven't the swans gone from 70k ANZ to moving back to SCG so they can fill a smaller stadium?

Less games, shorter games, and, arguably, weaker exclusive time slots. Or that is what they would have us believe.

They just need to buy all 8 games (simulcast the 4 nein games) and they will have nothing to complain about.

They do it for AFL.
