Its finally sinking in. Congrats to the Roosters... worthy premiers.
Thanks fellow Bluebags. We had a small but committed squad and we almost went all the way.
You guys answered the call and there when there to stick out the season. The F7s is in debt to you all.
We won all but two of our games in 2003. Losing to Souths during the season proper and offcourse falling at the final hurdle by the narrowest of margins to the Roosters. At last count, we played a total of 15 matches (including 3 trials) with 12 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw.
2003 Grand Finalists and runners up, the mighty Bluebags had no more than 9 different players who walked into the Henson Park sheds. In reality, we had 5 players taking up most of the hitups and wearing the bruises of a heavy tackle count. Its a tremendous achievement to have made it as far as we did.
The Newtown Bluebags F7s squad of 2003
Main run-on side:
Moffo, Hass, roopy, Gorilla, Willow
Special mention to Gorilla who won the F7s competition Best and Fairest of 2003, scoring more referee points than anyone else.... including a magnificent perfect score in round five, against Easts.
Invaluable reserves:
Legend, Bender, salivor, WH Nook (aka GavBT)
These guys saved our bacon on more than a few ocassions and this was abundantly evident in the grand final when we found ourselves a player short. Both Legend and Bender came rushing into the sheds to offer assistance... Legend evenually running onto the pitch and winning the F7s equivilent of the Clive Churchill medal.
Thanks one and all for a great season. Now its off to the bar... Moffo's shout.
