Problem with Cas and Wakey is they promised the earth last time and had no intention of delivering.

Wakey owe the taxman money, they are skint. They will be the ones to go, probably to safe guard the future of the club

Wakefield balance sheet would show that, as a business, they run a pretty tight ship with income and expenditure pretty much balancing themselves out. The club survives on the money they make from being a sports club and have no rich benefactors putting money in. There's an argument that this is the correct way to go. Where it becomes difficult is when something unexpected happens and extra money needs to be found, the tax bill which has now been paid.

Where would Warrington be if they had to survive without Simon Moran?
Gate receipts, hospitality, sponsorship and TV money certainly wouldn't fund the Wires squad.

Also Warrington fans should remember what their average gates were at Wilderspool and just be thankful that they were lucky enough to have had the right circumstances which lead to their move to the Halliwell Jones.

Wakefield & Cas might be a few years behind but they've had to work much harder to achieve what some clubs were gifted.

Little more readin' - little less guesswork:

http://www.superleague.co.uk/article.php?id=19262

The clubs, who have until December 3 to submit their applications to the Rugby Football League for assessment, must have a stadium with a capacity of 10,000, a recent turnover of at least £1million and an average attendance of 2,500-plus.

Widnes, who were in Super League from 2002-05, meet those requirements and are the overwhelming favourites to secure promotion after narrowly missing out to Salford City Reds and Crusaders RL in 2008.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Castleford Tigers, who are both hoping to press ahead with new stadium plans, are thought to be most at risk of losing their place among the game’s elite.

Five Championship clubs have applied for the one place in Super League that will be made available to them from 2012 onwards
The RFL have confirmed today that application forms have been sent to Halifax, Featherstone Rovers, Batley Bulldogs, Barrow Raiders and Widnes Vikings after they fulfilled what is described as "the on-field minimum criteria".
The five clubs have been either Co-operative Championship Grand Finalists or winners of the Northern Rail Cup in 2009 or 2010.
The RFL say they now have until 3 December 2010 to submit their applications for assessment.
"With the Co-operative Championship developing into such a vibrant competition in its own right, we expect a number of strong submissions from clubs who have aspirations of joining the Super League," said the RFL Compliance Manager Blake Solly.
"The licence process is a central factor in ensuring Super League reaches its aim of being the best elite Rugby League competition in the world and the response so far from those clubs eligible to apply has been exciting."
The RFL have also today published the minimum criteria which the clubs must meet in order for their applications to reach what they describe as the "assessment" stage.
These are:
a. Club has reached a Championship Final or won the Northern Rail Cup in 2009 or 2010.
b. Club has a stadium with an operational capacity of 10,000.
c. Club has turnover of at least £1,000,000 in financial year ending 2009 or 2010.
d. Club has an average attendance of at least 2500 in 2009 or 2010.
The RFL say that provided at least one applicant meets the minimum criteria, a Championship club will be awarded a Super League licence for a three-year period which starts from 2012 season.
The announcement is expected in March 2011.

Not a fan of this whole thing. It just seems like a complete gimmick to try and appease the flat cap idiots, but the likelihood is that it's going to have the opposite effect as well as going against the very principles of the license process.

QUOTE]

Sorry, but a tax bill is not "something unexpected". When you're running a business you know damn well that taxes have to be paid, they're not suddenly dumped on your desk completely out of the blue.

Not when the taxes due are from a previously untaxed area of the busines and the taxman is using you as a test case for other bigger fish in both your sport and other higher profile sports.

One or two bigger clubs than Wakefield could soon find a rather large and unexpected tax bill on the doormat.

no, Wakeys balance sheet shows they are in trouble as a club, before tax bills are factored into it.

Warrington survived for years without Simon Moran, we had already built our new stadium before he came in. We are the only club who have never been relegated.

Would we have won the tropheys? maybe not. Who knows?

Don't go on about been gifted. We had to work with the council, find partners to help build the stadium. It then went to a review by Prescott in the government. We had to rezone land, knock down an old building, create infrastructure. We knew we were in a bit of trouble, it wasn't easy. But we did it.

Now we are the second most profitable club in the land behind Leeds.

You lot made promises which you have not kept. Given the stage the stadiums at, it looks like you have not even tried. Both Saints and Salford are building there stadiums. Leigh, Doncaster, Widnes etc. have built theres. Cas and Wakey are still planning, something which should of been done 3 years ago when they said they were doing it.

You want to concede 50 points in your first game? Your fans will be crying for matches against Leigh by the time we have finished with you!! :D

We have a good record at the Stobart in recent years...

I havnt read all the posts so i might be saying something someone has already said, but i liked Super League when they had the relagation system, it was exciting and someone new every year. I personally would love for Super League to bring that back, thoughts?

It was a ridiculous system and scrapping it was the best thing they ever did.

The problem is the money gap between the leagues is so vast that clubs worry about relegation more than development. Hence you get a league full of 32 year old Aussies looking for an easy retirement. At least at the mo, we only have a few new ones now.

You couldn't protect the expansion teams anymore, they have been around long enough now, so what happens if Quins get relegated? Or Cats? No more French or London team.

Not what the RFL want.

Its gonna be good when your back.

If Salford can continue to recruit as they are doing, and you lot with money, coupled with the top 3 in the league last year the local matches are gonna be huge.

what happened was the gap between the national league and superleague teams were too big and were only gettin bigger with the superleague teams getting all the money and none going to national league teams, which the rfl wanted so they could use the excuse of 'the promoted team cant cope with the demands of superleague' so they went down the ozzie route as per and brought franchises in, for better? or for worse? who knows.

yea the derbies are always great and with our chairman at the helm spending the full cap we might actually be able to give u a game in the 1st season back in the top flight. It seems like a life time ago when i was interviewed outside wilderspool by wire fm before the our 1st derby back in superleague!! i remember the late chris percival scoring a vital try n kissin the badge it, always awesome atmosphere`s aswell.

Tbh i dont think salford have recruited that well, they all seem to be over the hill players, i reckon they'll be decent nxt yr but then half the team will be lookin at retiring!

I'd love to see Toulouse get chosen if they can get their stadium sorted. At who's expense i don't know.
