What’s funny is how Perth red and his mate forgot about the nz part of our tv deal when predicting what numbers we would get

For 20 years you said the nrl needed a “national” comp like the afl

Then they add Perth and you said it won’t do much for the deal

Coming from the guy who believes the suns and giants are worth 100 million pa for tv companies

Ahh yes. Add not understanding sarcasm to the list of almost everything else
Sarcasm is often portrayed online by the use of emoticons, gifs or acronym to indicate to the reader that is the intention of the post.

I'll mark that down as another thing you do not understand.

Will it be worth the 25% plus increase you think it will? Probably not, again we can only go on evidence. The last inclusion of an arguably more tv valuable club generated a $20mill a year increase (cash amount of that unknown). Now an extra tv slot is hopefully going to add to that value. But we wont get a 10th game slot until the end of the deal unless club 20 is fast tracked. So basically the NRl is selling one extra time slot + an extra 12 games from a 19th club for most of the deal. Lets guess and say based on Dolphins estimated tv value that is worth $40-50mill in the deal.

Where the big money comes is in competition for rights. Thats what drove AFL's deal from around $420mill to $520mill cash from tv, not the addition of the 19h club which was probably worth around $15-20mill going on Dolphins value.

We just need to keep our fingers and toes crossed that there are a number of bidders then we will get the deal we all want to see.

If we get 500 million (including nz) then that’s a bad result

550 would be a pass and anything over a good result

Serious competition will see 600 million

Last tv deals for historic context when there has been no competition for rights since ARLC ownership

2013 $220mill a year (cash around $227mill)
2018- $380 mill a year (cash around $364mill) +56% cash increase (Fox get all games)
2023- $400mill a year (cash maybe) + $32mill contra maybe - 1 new Brisbane team added +10% cash increase (maybe)

AFL got around $520mill cash from Australian TV. If we can get that plus whatever SkyNZ offers then we will have done alright.
I can’t see our Australian tv deal beating 520 million cash unless Stan are bidding seriously

Which they may by letting go of the union

On that we agree. No competition we'll land around $450mill cash all up imo. Competition and $550mill is possible.

I think re competition it’s going to be more than just Stan v Fox and seven might go for origin

I’ve always wanted to watch origin on Fox

A joint bid with seven would be awesome

And if Stan do offer 500 million for all the league (like they did afl) that’s puts us at mid 500 mill with nz

Having all games on nine / stan is going to suck from a viewer pov so I hope they don’t get it. Just push Fox to where they need to be
