Dude every deal AFL gets more, remind me again what sport has more content?

This one going 9 years in the future made the gap seem bigger than reality shows
it was as little as 36 Mill pa ( average ) on the last deal with almost the same content as now
they increased their numb of games by 9 per year
we increased ours by 12

content is irrelevant

One is 9 games a week
One is 8 games a week

Seasons are the same length.

So again did the code with 8 games or 9 games get more?

so
despite having 1/3 less content , in the last deal , if we had 9 games we'd be of been ahead ..

content = irrelevant

Exactly what I have been saying all along about the respective deals all along. They are apples and Oranges comparisons

But for the 30% over 7 years or so increase AFL got

that includes

Giving ch7 access to stream games
Giving Fox a Super Saturday
9 extra rounds
Now expansion

On top of 25% or so inflation.

So the question is what extra content can NRL give TV to warrant a similar increase.

9th game
Internationals and Pre season
Extended NRLW.

However by that time AFL will be looking for team 20, Giving them 10 games of content a round. Again making the comparison Apples v Oranges again

Except the last deal the content was closer and the deal was closer lol. This deal NRL has closed the content gap with having an extra 12 games a year but the gap has widened to $150mill ish a year cash!! (dependent on AFL 19th club decision). Given 19th club is dependent on Feds part funding a stadium and that deal isnt yet done I dont see how it could have been included in next tv deal, unless AFL were going to do it anyway regardless if stadium happened or not.

And for our meagre 3-7% increase (depending on what cash amount turns out to be) they got:
12 extra games
another team in the lucrative Brisbane market
disbanded the digital media arm
loss of telstra streaming forcing people onto kayo

Just a reminder, tv only avg annual revenue

NRL
(2018 deal inc telstra) $380 mill a year avg ($356mill cash, $24mill contra)
(2023 deal no telstra) $397mill (either $370mill cash or $397mill cash depending on how you read the announcement)

AFL
(2017 deal inc telstra) $416mill ($400mill cash, $16mill contra)
(2023 deal no telstra) $423mill ($410mill cash)
(2025 deal no telstra) $550mill ($530mill cash)

Cash Gaps
2017/19 deal avg $44mill per year
2023-24 deal avg $40mill or $13mill
2025-2027 deal avg $160mill or $130 mill

Thats the starkness of the current reality unless something changes for NRL before 2027.

Out of interest does anyone know what Telstra is paying NRL beyond the comp naming rights sponsorship? I'm presuming they are paying something for the continued access to replays?

Could you post this for the 200th time please Mr Misery Head?

And I’m convinced you’ll put a negative spin on it.

So with two extra teams and their games going for for close to double ours they were only getting ten percent more than us

omg that’s hilarious

Just evidence that content amount isnt the only driver of tv value, clearly neither is ratings!

But yeh 'only' $44mill a year difference until Vlandys totally screwed this deal up that sees that gap blow out to $130/160mill a year come 2025!

With all that extra content the afl had its a terrible result for them

so much for their national competition being something to aspire too

maybe we really should just focus on more teams in rugby league areas given this failure by the Afl

The TV Networks have boards who need to approve such things, It was always going to have more content to make it value for money

Well you have been told many times about the $550m ave including inflation.

Now expansion and the extra rounds are included and you still go on with the NRL stuffing up. Despite the comparison becoming more and more apples and Oranges.

You need to take Gill's dick out of your mouth long enough to look at reality
