WTF where did I say it wasn't worth it? It is worth $3bn BUT the asset is already costing whatever the loan amount is.

They want to limit any further losses or that asset goes
It’s not a loan, the bank transactions will be to pay off Foxtel’s debts to News Corp & Telstra. .

Now we are getting somewhere.

How many ads would of been played in the GF which had 4 tries scored?

10-20 at halftime plus the 4 after a try

3.4m people watched it which is great.

If look earlier when the commercials would of been played

The NRLW drew 600k

The News about 1m.

Pre game 1.7m
Post game 1.6m

You aren't selling the commercial space in the pre show to companies with the 3.4m figure. You are using the one that is a 1/4 of that for the NRLW.

50% figure for the pre and post game.

Now add in a run of the mil NRL game where you are looking at 1/3 of the audience being on another Network.

Where is the value on FTA?

hence why the FTA games should be only on FTA. That makes them more valuable and hence NRL can get higher money
That’s why the AFL will always get a better FTA broadcast deal, they capitalise on their peak audience by having a commercial break after every goal and a 4min block between quarters.

having said that, there’s no reason 9 can’t increase in game commercials. Golf, Formula 1 .. etc all have Picture in Picture adverts. There’s no reason nrl games couldn’t have a 15 second Picture in Picture advert while players are walking to a scum.

in regards the the nba, they signed a record deal but have lost a staggering 48% of their audience over the past decade and ratings are down 28% from last year. Yikes !!! Marquee match ups ( Boston v lakers ) rate about 3m, roughly the same as Origin in a country with a population of 330m.

The NBA only has themselves to blame … the game has moved away from the skills that made it what it was in the 80s and 90s and is now just a three point athon … the big name players change teams regularly, and the refs have sanitised the game to remove any “personalities “… it’s become a bland spectacle with most of their 82 game regular season rendered pretty meaningless…where big names regularly sit out games … not good if you are paying hundreds of dollars to attend once a year games

The NBA is trying to blame other issues in society, but interestingly these don’t apply to the NFL which goes from strength to strength

It isn't just AFL. Cricket and Tennis get crazy money compared to the actual content.

Tennis you are looking at 1m people for 10 hours a day for 2 weeks. An ad after every game

Cricket every session gets 1m. So you are looking at 15m people a test. An ad after every over is a decent haul for TV.

NBA is a hard one to gauge on purely ratings. Aug last year Disney did a break down and ESPN streaming is crazy numbers and money wise. - this doesn't show in ratings

Amazon starts next year they will want people to go buy their stuff as a flow on.

CBS - starting gives FTA coverage so no other products to flog off. Is a good guide to use.

That said I am a Knicks fan. Often I am watching the local MSG feed while Kayo has the national Coverage. Losing a huge market like NY would dent the ratings.

so the success is hard to gauge on that alone but in the future. I see Fox or DAZN whatever it is called. Having say AFL on Sat. NRL Sunday or something like that because both will get too high to be afforded

That is also a big issue. NFL for example has Amazon show every Thurs night game only and going well.

EPL in UK has 4 different networks showing games again has no issue ratings wise.

It is the future

The first lesson for the NRL is to be careful when you mess around with the fabric of your game .. it can turn people off …

In relation to the TV rights for the NRL … I think they will be broken up and sold to multiple platforms …I know that fans of the NFL find this annoying … but they seem to spend the money anyway …

Which is why having 1/4 would be a mistake but would have the same outcome.

Most people have multiple streaming accounts anyway. As long as it is consistent so fans know where to watch Thurs night games.

The NRL is going to be fine…

I’m not sure about the NBA next time though…. Their players might be getting a haircut unless international money is going to fill the hole… unlikely in my view

Because NBA is no.1 & while it's ratings have gone down in the past decade so has everything else. Tv rights have increased as ratings drop, because finding something that people watch on tv has become harder.

the NBA is not been number one …the NFL rules the roost ..

Well college Football especially is king over there

The NFL is the number one sport for TV rights by far … $12.5 billion a year … NBA is about $7.5 billion … despite showing much more content than the NFL …I don’t know what college football pays … but considering it’s mostly shown on Saturday afternoons….im assuming it’s way behind

a lot of US commentators think otherwise

If I watch Kayo on delay. I don't get counted officially in ratings. Yet Kayo knows I have watched and can use my viewing in the total watched minutes to sell to advertisers.

Disney's release of the figures showed ESPN+ is being watched in huge numbers and profits are showing that.

So the actual people sitting in front of the TV might be down but people seem to be watching. Hence why Disney/ESPN renewed.

That is the point behind that starting 5 on Netflix. They chose poorly with the players selected but the aim is to get to see the players off court

I meant overall. College teams having larger Stadiums and fill them but yes TV is bigger for NFL
