Does that not have considerable value though ? I remember the AFL media flogging themselves silly when they got to 18 teams including perennial basket cases GWS and Good Coast..,

I would think having say an extra Sunday night 6pm game a week trumps a longer season

No because you lose X amount of the higher drawing teams

When we get to 20 or 22 clubs would be the time to look at it. This deal will all be about massive $'s so NRL will be very cautious re any significant structure change imo.

If the Int game keeps growing and the NRL comes up with more 'event' type successes this tv deal then 2033 may see something more radical with 20 clubs. If they do get more involved with SL its possible we could see NRL rounds replaced with Int club rounds, but that depends on how competitive the SL clubs could be.

A possible 3 conference NRL/SL comp would not be out of the question in the long term future. Especially if they can get the direct flying time down a bit.

The only way PNG benefits NRL is improving the International game. 2 games a year bashing up on Fiji doesn't do that. So more international is needed

Having 9 games a round but 22 weeks will be a sideways move as far as TV money goes
The theory is less games = higher quality games = games are more important to win = bigger crowds and tv audience.

The NFL is the highest rating sport in America playing only 17 games, they’ve been very careful of not watering down their product and extending the season.

Easy to do that with 330m people.

Townsville needs the Broncos and ideally the QLD teams every year. It is great for the area

The extra money Fox paid when the Dolphins came in was to get Broncos on more because they are such a huge club.

The less them, Souffs etc are on TV the less people watching to less valuable the product is.

I am all for reducing the length of the season but the trade off is you don't maximise such things as the TV deal.

Getting PNG good in test footy where you can run a quality 3 test series v NZ in the Origin standalone weeks, Is one way the gap can be covered elsewhere
