If the reports are true, then its an underwhelming result really and I am pretty annoyed they rolled over for a 6pm friday game.

The bar has been set:
Fox $1.08 billion
FTA $700million cash + $50million contra
Digital $250million no naming rights

expansion of 2 new clubs
3.5 (probably +1) FTA games
live simucast on Fox all games
Fox dedicated channel
Fan friendly times for most games

Anything else and we have arguably failed to deliver against the benchmark set.

Does our games administration intrinsically lack balls? At least we can blame the worse deal on not having a ninth game to sell lol.

Although it does offer the possibility of flipping a ninth game around to being a fourth FTA game instead of the fifth Fox game. Nine would after all is said and done have more than $150m back in their pocket that could fund that expansion. Ten (now Fox FTA) and maybe even Seven might be in the race for that one game.

Seeing as it's your main obsession, you do concede that the AFL including contra received $2.03m per game based on an 18 team comp.

The NRL only has 15 teams in Australia, 1 in New Zealand and game coverage usually goes for 1 hour less.

The NRL shortened the comp with the 9 deal so it will likely end up with 197 games per season including Origin. The equivalent dollars (including contra) over 5 years is approx $1.999 billion. Anything over that means the NRL is making more per minute for its coverage in Australasia.

But I think you should wait until the NRL press conference before you really start your whinging.

Telegraph quotes International rights at between $75m to $100M?

Instead, Telstra will take the digital rights for what is believed to be about $150 million. Meanwhile, it is understood the international rights are worth between $75 million and $100 million.

Must be the only TV rights deal on the planet going backwards...

Also...don't they realise that the Warriors are going to be in NZ Prime time every second Friday night?

Not sure if posted but Fox Sports News saying 18 Thursday night games in 2016? That's a lot if true also Monday night stays for 2016.

Classic rugby league wrist slitting going on I see.

It's a pretty decent deal aside from the Friday 6pm.

1.8b + NZ and the NRL is pretty much on par with the AFL per game.

Doubled money
NRL channel on fox
Simulcast
3 live FTA games in this deal vs 1 in the last (2 later on)

There's positives there in my view.

Mabe Telstra didn't pay as much because 9 has at least 3 games they can stream. Who knows im sure all the figures will change later on today.

you will agree you are already making excuses? I just showed where the bar is. You cant say we got less because no ninth game and absolve the NRL of any responsibility for not having that ninth game to sell! More per minute doesn't pay the bills, fund expansion, sort out grass roots or pay for marketing of the game. Cold hard cash in total amounts does that.

I notice you failed to mention the value of origin , Nines or the fact that the NRL is the biggest TV sport in the country in your defence of the AFL deal being justifiably worth more? I'm always amused by RL fans who slate AFL then say that it is ok for it to be worth more to Australian media because of X,Y&Z.

tick, tick, tick...... Time will tell.
