Non of you optimists have anything to say about Roy Masters article today?

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...-down-to-a-few-key-votes-20151123-gl5jcn.html

Another editorial. Seems no matter which side of the media fence it comes from all we get is articles with no names attached instead replaced by he said she said. Seems when nees come up witj a story even fairfax run with it. Why was bart campbell quoted as saying the last meeting was very positive yet we have puffed jorunos now saying he is the ringleader instigating the instability

The clubs are collectively negotiating for increased funding & Campbell is the delegated spokesman for all 16 clubs, that includes the agitators dib & politis.

Other than Grant allegedly holding out for $2bn the article really doesn't say anything we didn't already know.

It is widely agreed this rebuff prompted Murdoch to overpay the AFL by $300m, funds which will be used to prop up the Gold Coast Suns and GWS Giants and further their push into Queensland and NSW.

Another $300M that the AFL is going to use to pump into these unwanted franchises?

Whats left for them to spend it on?

Instead of free tickets, start paying people to attend games and watch on TV?

I'm happy that the aFL are wasting money on teams that nobody wants.
Don't under estimate what the aFL will do to try and make their game a success in in NSW and QLD and if that means paying people to attend games they will and I'm 100% serious.

Of course, they want one major code (as I suspect do the media) and the AFL are determined to be it whilst the rest are left as also rans. It happened in UK with soccer. You think they cant do much to achieve that with a significantly bigger revenue to spend? Its why the NRL deal is so critical and why it cant all just go into the backpockets of clubs.

As for the article, he should stop reading News ltd and start doing some investigative journalism!

For once I agree with Perth Red. Roy Masters is clutching at straws. He knew didly about the deal with Nine and like the rest of the media is either regurgitating stories or in News Ltd case are just making stuff up about whats happening with the remaining part of the rights deal.

Not much hope really for public opinion of the game when you have all sides of the media laying into the commission like this. His story is more full of holes than Swiss cheese. What would really be funny is if they oust grant and end up with Graham Samuel, he is a ball breaker that would see mergers of unsustainable clubs and dead wood cut loose.

I'll just throw my little 2 cents I believe/ think they as in Fox will want it done soon as with the other rights they will be left right out and no matter which way they look at it it it costs them money so to tight up revenue soon they will be seeking a as a signing shortly.

Hes not really having a go at the ARLC, he is essentially saying the small cartel of club chairs want their influence back and the clubs on the periphery are awake to their motives and if push comes to shove will back Grant as the devil they know.

The minority are usually the loudest in these sort of things and if they were in the numbers they'd like us to believe they would have done something about it by now rather than cowardly hide behind 'unnamed club chairman' when running their campaign through the media over the last 24 months.

I think a compromise will be presented by the NRL that will never please the few playing politics but that will satisfy the majority of the clubs. Problem is those few outside the tent will continue their sniping as long as they don't get their way, but will have little other avenues once other clubs sign participation agreements, unless they get through their changes to the constitution, but if money is on the table I doubt most clubs will care enough about that to be a significant sticking point.

Didn't take old Roy long to effectively call bullshit on his own story:

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/g-20151124-gl6w9h.html

"Wayne Pearce, a former international as is Grant, has been suggested as a replacement for him. Pearce's term on the commission concludes early next year. It is understood club chairmen prefer an elite former player as ARLC chairman, as the AFL have historically done."

Grants games for Australia dont qualify him as elite??

Or is it just that he didnt play NSWRL....

That is significant. He should hold out for 2 billion.
