They have 4.5 games/week on average on FTA. A Fox game now shifts to CH10 on a Saturday arvo; it was written into the contract if FOX got it's share in CH10 approved by the ACCC.

haven't seen anything that contradicts the below.

Seven will telecast an average of 3.5 matches per round on free-to-air TV in a deal that will begin in 2017, while Foxtel will maintain its rights for all nine matches and Telstra the digital rights.

News Corp will also have the right to sub-license a Saturday afternoon game which is believed to be worth around $30 million per season, which will almost certainly go to Network Ten should the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission sign off on a mooted deal for Foxtel to take a 15 per cent stake in the struggling network.

WHO WILL BUY FOXTEL'S EXTRA GAME?

Channel Ten is desperate to acquire whatever big-time sport it can. Given the affiliation it will likely have with Foxtel (ACCC approval pending) they would be a good chance to get back into the AFL broadcasting scene for the first time since 2011.

Could set your watch by these clowns, obviously their 'proposal' went over with the ARLC like a lead balloon and they are throwing another tantrum beating that same old club revolt drum.

It appears absolutely insane tactics that the one organisation that they need to do a deal with to survive, amid increasing competition, is the one organisation that they are relentlessly attacking.

Bizzare.....

I think they are used to just riding rough shod over RL tbh. Since 1996 they have fked the game any way they pleased and they think their sht house tactics will still get them want they want. By bullying the NRL they think it will cave in to them. Hopefully the game is made of sterner stuff these days, I really really hope Smiths departure had nothing to do with news ltd pressure, and we make them pay for all this ridiculous attacks on the game. f**k it I'd take whatever Optus is offering at this point just to screw them.

It's things like this that make you sound like a c**k. What do you mean you hope? Grant has come out and said that it had nothing to do with News and that Smith was always going to leave after 3-5 years.

You've wanted the NRL to come out and refute other things News have said in the past. Grant came out and refuted the News claim about Smiths departure and you don't acknowledge it.

It was just a rehash of club demands around funding, Newscorp are just exploiting it now because grant didn't fall in line with their proposal and is instead still talking with Optus. It's been obvious that Newscorp editors have been briefed on the narrative to run.

I really don't know why people don't take the time to see this as it is.

Watch and enjoy, is all you need to do, as the News parasites that once controlled our game become irrelevant, while the game of Rugby League prospers.

The demise of News is just an offshoot, fun, voyeurist sport for the whole family.

Well he's hardly likely to come out and faking admit it! I notice that he hasn't said why he did leave.

But you automatically assume that it's the reason that News claim it is, despite anyone who would know, saying that it isn't true.

No agenda at all with you at all.

Actually what I said was "I hope that news weren't the reason" I have no idea if they were or weren't. Timing is Suss and no reason for his departure in the middle of important period for the game has been given so we are left to make guesses. Grant has said he is dissapointed he left without telling us why he left. Of course he is going to say it had nothing to do with news led pressure, anything else would be a complete admission of weakness. Of course it could well be the case it had nothing to do with the negotiations, as I said I HOPE SO.

Don't know too many ceo's though who would leave a $million a year position in the middle of the most important strategic time unless they are :
1. Pushed
2. So sick of tne place they've had enough
3. They've had a better offer.
4. Personal reasons ie ill health, family needs etc.

Which do you think it was last week?

Your agenda against me is equally transparent.

That's the thing, you do have an idea of his departure. John Grant. But you choose to ignore it.

With all this anti NRL rhetoric, News are going to look really stupid if they manage to get the remaining games that are up for grabs.
Can News really afford not to make a genuine offer for the remaining games?
If they don't they are fully aware that subscriptions in NSW and QLD will plummet.
I bet on the quiet they really regret going OTT with their fumbleball offer.
Happy days ahead for the NRL.

Pretty much as no reason has been given and like I said there is no way in the world if that was the reason grant would admit it. I've been in a room and listened to John grant lie to the audience in the room about the nrl's plans for Perth so forgive me if I don't hold much stead in his word.

Tell me why do you think he walked from a $million a year job right in the middle of one of the most crucial times for the game when his vision was only half realised? Give us an opinion, play the ball not the man.

They'll have done the maths and know what it is worth to them. Optus adds a greater imperative not to low ball the offer. NRL just needs to hold its nerve.

And that's the crux of it. As if it wasn't glaringly obvious. You just can't come to grips with the fact that the ARLC had a responsibility to its current stakeholders first and foremost. Also, they have to prioritise things and Perth wasn't a priority. Tough but that's business.

Why do I think Smith left? I have no idea and I'm not going to presume why because I don't know. The most logical explanation I've seen from people on here is that he's a CEO, and most CEOs move on fairly quickly. It's what they do. Especially CEOs like Smith who come in to businesses looking for change and going through a transition.

News journalists claim that they demanded Smith be sacked because of his negotiations? Come on. Does anyone honestly think that's remotely true? News would risk losing hundreds of millions of dollars if they didn't get the rights to the NRL and they would have to answer to their shareholders. Do you seriously think they would risk losing that because they didn't like David Smith? Is he the toughest negotiator they've ever dealt with? Don't be so naive. News would not and could not demand a CEO be sacked from another company. No more than we could demand Julian Clarke be sacked as News Corp Australia CEO.
