Foxtel Risks Losing Top Shows In NRL Standoff

Can anyone point to anywhere that might back up this statement? If anything like that was happening surely we would have heard it by now through the AFL spin machine?

Its bullshit...

The nrl has actually gone from 77 to 50 under exceptional circumstances (the average ratings have actually improved over the last few years.)

The VFL have only seen growth due to the simalcast of their primetime games (meaning the NRL will probably get back to the high 70s if Fox were to buy all 8)

Was going to ask them myself but someone beat me to it, apparently it's right.

@RL_Ratings @FinancialReview are those numbers quoted by foxtel about afl for real? They seem odd. Afl numbers are well below NRL on stv

@simon900 had a look this afternoon, they are correct.

Must be a twist to this. the AFL's average ratings per game is 170000 against 172000 for our weakest timeslots. Must have something to do with the fact afl has 9 games on fox per week.

So AFL going backwards so much in 1 year?

There has to be a catch... Maybe the AFL finals are live on Fox?

AFL finals are simulcast live, so that's basically 8 games in top 20.

NRL is up this year on fox, including more games over 300k than all of last year, so maybe we just had a bad year last year.

AFL didn't have simulcasting 5 years ago, so that's why it has increased over the past five years. They're not comparing like for like so of course the NRL is going to decline

wouldn't worry about it, Top 100 doesn't really mean a whole lot in the schemes of things, the NRL has the highest average ratings of any code on foxtel and along with the AFL is basically 80% of fox sports content. The NRL know it, foxtel know it & fox sports know it.

Not sure if related, but Roy Masters on Offsiders said 2014 was an exceptional year. Foxtel had some coverage of the World Cup, the Commonwealth Games and the Winter Olympics which substantially crowded out the top 100.
