No team has ever won the premiership after conceding 50pts in a regular season match

It's all about as getting as close as possible. Obviously been trying to get close in the last few weeks.
Now the team needs to decide if they risk going for 49 or start trying again now.

Random fact I just dug up: Balmain conceded 46 points (10 tries, 8 goals) against Souffs in round 13, 1947, then won their next 8 games to take the Premiership. Under today's scoring system, that would be 56.

More hope for the donkeys: Newcastle in 2001 didn't just concede the highest score by a Premiership team (49), they conceded 40 points 4 times, including back to back weeks against Canterbury and Parramatta. Now the donkeys just need a team to choke Parra style.

The real 2008 'grand' final was played in Brisbane, Storm/Broncos took the season for them to the climax, the Seagles were merely the janitor cleaning up after the fat lady had been put to bed. Last night's score is nowhere near as demonic as Melbourne's lucky last at Suncorp that year and almost as meaningless as Manly's 40-0

Can some translate the meaning of ol' Pop's post there? All I got was somehow Manly slamming a team of cheats 40-0 is meaningless?

I don't. Manly were absolutely dominant in that finals series. Any game not involving them wasn't a grand final, it was a playoff for second at best.
