I seem to be the only one of my mates that thought District 9 sucked. Dunno if it was rated by critics or not.

Gangster films bore me to the point of tears (Godfather, Goodfellas, Scarface, Casino etc.). I can see their appeal to other people though.

Main thing I didn't like about District 9 was that it was set in Seth Effrica, mainly because I can't stand the f**king accent.

Otherwise it was ok for what it was.

I'm not a Tarantino fanboy, but neither of those movies were supposed to be realistic or anywhere near true to actual history. The violence, goofiness, Pitt's accent etc. was all part of his 'take' on WWII and slavery.

Not calling them great movies, but they were a lot of fun and not to be taken seriously.

Really? I had no idea

His take on both was to expunge his white boy guilt and try to be hip. I expect his next film to be set in Vietnam and have Vietnamese girls getting their revenge on US soldiers.

Big Lebowski was shit, don't understand why it's so highly rated.

Gravity was definitely over rated, was okay but nowhere near as good as it's made out to be.

Any Fast and Furious movie.

All Transformers movies.

Noah, also struggled to get through this.

Lone Survivor.

Does anyone rate them any higher than 'mindless fun' though?
I suppose there would be some morons who would rate them brilliant movies (Bulldogs Force probably).

I really liked Noah. It wasn't perfect, but it had some interesting ideas. I don't know many people who rate it though (mostly because no one has seen it).

I thought District 9 was good, the fact it didn't happen in New York or LA helped too.

The hype around the Transformers and Fast and Furious was what I was going off I guess

Any books written by J K Rowling that was made into a movie.

Any books written by J R R Tolkein that was made into a movie.

Gravity - a popular choice I see.

The Steaming Turd of an Overrated Movie Award goes to:-

(insert drumroll)

Grave Of The Fireflies!! A total waste of celluloid - wimpy animated crud.

This IMDB post sums it up perfectly.

"Grave of the Fireflies is overly sentimental and manipulative of its audience. To make a movie like this about a complex scenario such as the end of Japan's war (which had begun in 1931, and not 1941 as some people seem to think) seems almost dishonest. It needs to be watched in conjunction with other films like 'The Emperor's Naked Army Marches on' or 'Japanese Devils' to really get a balanced perspective of what is portrayed in this film. If not then tell the same story but set it in a fictional war. If you're going to use the events of 1945 as your background then at least try to acknowledge all of the factors involved and not just selectively choose events to manipulate emotion."

I don't see how he explains that it's wimpy animated crud and a waste of celluloid, he just says to watch other films to get a more balanced perspective of the war.
