The colour purple. Watched it a few months ago with the missus. Seemed like Spielberg was confused as to whether it was a comedy or drama (coz attempted rape is apparently funny). Missed big time on both counts imo. Can't believe it was nominated for so many oscars! But Spielberg I guess..

Not definitive - but a start -

Shawshank Redemption - ok story, we all get it, nothing special, average acting & characters. Girls film.
Casablanca - standard lovestory. Girls film.
Gladiator - a dud
Schindlers List - borefest
Big Lebowski - obvious

No. There are a few I'd really disagree with in this thread. But Gran Torino? Underrated if anything.

I will never acknowledge any praise given to this piece of shit. Everything about this movie was a cliche and it sucked the farts out of my dirty jocks.

The one I can't remember the name of with every male star on earth in it in nothing roles where Jack is the bad guy responsible for every bad thing in the movie and then turns out to be working for the FBI, and everyone inexplicably gets killed off except for Wahlberg.

Infernal Affairs was a thousand times better.

Don't quite understand this popular opinion.

I've seen both Infernal Affairs and The Departed, and both are outstanding movies.
Infernal Affairs probably handled the last 20 minutes a bit better, admittedly.

Haha, I loved every single one of those movies.
Goodfellas overrated? Never thought I'd ever hear that from anyone.

I know I'm in a minority here, but for some reason it didn't really click for me.
Maybe I need to give it a rewatch.

Its not terrible by any means but I expected more given its reputation and the 8.7 rating

Inglorious Basterds - Absolutely hate this film. Violent, unrealistic and a wankfest. Pitt's accent was deplorable, the whole idea of Jewish revenge insulting and the rewriting of history absolutely ridiculous. Part 1 of his white guy expunging his guilt series.
Django unchained - part 2 of white guy expunging his guilt. Even worse than IB, drawn out and so far removed from the truth it's tragic.

I'm not a Tarantino fanboy, but neither of those movies were supposed to be realistic or anywhere near true to actual history. The violence, goofiness, Pitt's accent etc. was all part of his 'take' on WWII and slavery.

Not calling them great movies, but they were a lot of fun and not to be taken seriously.

Big Lebowski was shit, don't understand why it's so highly rated.

Gravity was definitely over rated, was okay but nowhere near as good as it's made out to be.

Any Fast and Furious movie.

All Transformers movies.

Noah, also struggled to get through this.

Lone Survivor.

Gravity was visually pretty cool, but the plot and acting were pretty bloody rubbish.

The little post movie bit though was piss funny

I seem to be the only one of my mates that thought District 9 sucked. Dunno if it was rated by critics or not.

Gangster films bore me to the point of tears (Godfather, Goodfellas, Scarface, Casino etc.). I can see their appeal to other people though.
