He seems to dodge the criticism others get. His team has 3 current SOO players and a few ex ones. They could be doing betterIs Adam O'Brien's coaching career going the same way as another Bellamy acolyte in Steve Kearney??
The Ponga situation has a real Hayne stench about it. Generational talent no doubt, but they're putting all their eggs in one basket with him. And I think he has missed both their wins this year and played in 5 straight losses coming back from injury. If I'm being honest, he strikes me as a bit of a space cadet...He seems to dodge the criticism others get. His team has 3 current SOO players and a few ex ones. They could be doing better

They are an out of Sydney club so they survive the blowtorch.Newcastle have always had an easy run with the media, but they've been poor for a long time.
Yeah but wasn't that during the time when dodgy fat f**k mining magnate Clive 2.0 owned them ?And when Wayne Bennett couldn't succeed up there when he has basically been successful everywhere else tells you something isnt right up in the hunter if Bennett couldn't turn them around.
The other point is that there are still plenty of people in the media who remember the 1997 GF. Can’t understate how important that was for rugby league during the dark super league period. They are an out of Sydney club so they survive the blowtorch.
Another reason is i think Johns brothers also control the narrative with newcastle in the media.
Both have big voices and sway in the sydney media so i think the knights are protected from that. Matty has a lot of sway at Fox. So dont go too hard on the poor old knights there.
Both of them also recommend O'Brien for the job. And while matty isnt on the board at newcastle his statements in the media still have a lot of pull and influence on the board and club direction because he is seen as one of leagues great minds.
Go back to the period where they won 3 wooden spoons the excuses made for them in the media when you consider every other team cops heat for one bad season i think reinforces my view they are protected from severe criticism.
Newcastle have been portrayed as a battling club and it has created a cycle of mediocrity since joey retired.

Yeah Nathan tinkler.Yeah but wasn't that during the time when dodgy fat f**k mining magnate Clive 2.0 owned them ?
Yeah ok i wasn't old enough to remember 1997.The other point is that there are still plenty of people in the media who remember the 1997 GF. Can’t understate how important that was for rugby league during the dark super league period.
That Manly team from 95-97 was one of the best I have seen. Only lost a handful of games.Yeah ok i wasn't old enough to remember 1997.
Was a great GF watching the replay on fox a few years back i can't believe how everyone would have felt seeing Manly get done like that in real time. Would have felt like a dream on the day.
I still feel like they looked after a lot more then other clubs when it comes to scruitny.
Matty johns barely brushed over the knights game on his show on sunday night. He was happy to talk about the 5 games though.
Best game I’ve ever been toThe other point is that there are still plenty of people in the media who remember the 1997 GF. Can’t understate how important that was for rugby league during the dark super league period.
I watched it at home with my old man who pissed himself laughing when Toovey got trampled. Second only to the 1989 GF which was an astonishing game.Best game I’ve ever been to

Lost 13 games in three years and two of them were grand finals. That Manly team from 95-97 was one of the best I have seen. Only lost a handful of games.
Wasn't even the only grand final I've been to. I used to go to plenty of games. I lived in Sydney most of my life and didn't have much else to do. There was no internet ffs!*Only
Seems like V'landys is keen to play more GFs in Brisbane.
Lure of money from QLD government is a major factor.
But why have a GF where 30k less people can attend.
Qld see origin as their GF anyway.
Unless there is a QLD team in it they wouldn't care. They proved it last year when the crowds were garbage for the 2 months they had the comp up there.
Contract is invalid now because Homebush stadium wont be getting the upgrade that was agreed upon before covid with the NSW Government.I thought there was some sort of 10 year agreement/contract for it to remain in Sydney?
Contracts aren't worth the paper they're printed on...I thought there was some sort of 10 year agreement/contract for it to remain in Sydney?
