Unfortunately some of the individuals associated with independents and smaller parties don't qualify as "voices of sanity" and can potentially end up with a lot more power and responsibility than they truly deserve (particularly if favourable preferences got them over the line).

Prof Ross Fitzgerald from the Sex Party is worthy of a vote. Ignore the Sex Party thing (the title has little to do with their policies), his views are very much what most of us think.

Meanwhile telstra have been ferreting about in my street in the last few months and installed huge underground ribbon cables. A few weeks ago I get an email from telstra telling me that as a broadband cable customer, they are sending me a new "Gateway Max" modem/router for self installation, which I plugged in.

Yesterday I did a wifi speed test and pulled 75mb/s :shock: at 6:30pm. Pretty sure that the NBN only promises 100mb/s.

Which brings me to Shorten's fibre argument vs Turnbull's emerging_technologies_will_in_time_match_fibre_expectations argument. I am not sure if my download rates are high because of my proximity to the node (or whatever the correct terminology is) but it seems that I am getting NBN speeds whilst not having a pure fibre connection or even an NBN backbone.

How dumb are these merkins? My area is both being done and not done. They are doing patches all over the suburb and our street is not on the plan. 1 street behind me just got it and we did not.

Like everything that is organised by the government it is a complete mess and failure!

Just get yourself some King Gee shorts and shirt, pay someone to embroider 'NBN Ltd' on the pocket, and rock up and say 'As part of the installation we just need access to your modem, and your sub-floor. Don't worry, this blue cable running through your back yard is perfectly normal.'.
