I don't get into political debates like some like to, I personally believe in the old saying about not discussing politics. If someone asked me what side of politics I support then I would say neither. I guess I'm a swing voter over the years I have voted for both parties (my federal electorate is a safe liberal seat so the times I've voted labour have made no difference). Normally I have a fair idea who I'm going to vote for but this election I've got no f*cking idea. However on the back of seeing the liberal add over the last few days they are not filling me with much confidence. Honestly the line "we should just see it through and stick with the current mob for a while" is probably the worse line I've ever heard advertising a political campaign.

Twiz, do you get paid to do this on the forums?

#seriousquestion

I do if for love, everyone here are volunteers and a lot of our journos are uni students doing work experience, some have gone onto jobs in mainstream media.

From what I hear about Rio, that's a pretty mundane occurrence.

I am not attached to any party per se, however do have expectations based on ideologies. I guess you would call me slightly left of centre, which determines my wish list.

Both Turnbull and Shorten I think are LOC on the political spectrum however both are hamstrung by powers above them. Shorten by the unions and Turnbull by the conservatives. If either leader were given a chance to make their own policies, I think we'd be in a good place.

Turnbull will be returned I think, however what concerns me is that the conservatives will continue to dictate policy on SSM, climate change, NBN, Uni deregulation. All of which we know Turnbull has opposing views, yet has been steered (with one arm behind his back) into this direction.

Shorten likes to think he's the champion of the battler, yet does not have the balls to rein in the powerful unions.

Likewise Turnbull is being pressured from above not to get tough on big business and allow the Banks to write their own rules and the multi-nationals to profit shift. His position on CO2, SSM and NBN is astonishing considering his known views.

I am not enjoying this long election campaign and am particularly irked by the daily promises of cash by both sides to the marginal electorates. Every day hundreds of millions are thrown at bridges, stadiums, roads all with the "if elected" caveat.

I think I will support Turnbull this time around, with the hope that after being elected by the masses, that he will have the gumption and political clout to ignore the threats by the conservatives within the LNP and forge ahead with his own policies, rather those that Abbott, Abetz, Bernardi etc have previously dictated.

BTW as an adjunct to the NBN discussion, my suburb is not even on the NBN radar. I think that we're not due to be hooked up until at least 2018.

Meanwhile telstra have been ferreting about in my street in the last few months and installed huge underground ribbon cables. A few weeks ago I get an email from telstra telling me that as a broadband cable customer, they are sending me a new "Gateway Max" modem/router for self installation, which I plugged in.

Yesterday I did a wifi speed test and pulled 75mb/s  at 6:30pm. Pretty sure that the NBN only promises 100mb/s.

Which brings me to Shorten's fibre argument vs Turnbull's emerging_technologies_will_in_time_match_fibre_expectations argument. I am not sure if my download rates are high because of my proximity to the node (or whatever the correct terminology is) but it seems that I am getting NBN speeds whilst not having a pure fibre connection or even an NBN backbone.

Sitting in a cafe and there is an old lady wearing a Jonathan Thurston headgear. Don't think I have ever seen that before. She doesn't look like she has either come from or is going to a football match.

like you i live in a blue ribbon liberal seat so my vote will have no bearing on who is pm but i have decided to pick through the independents and vote for one who seems decent

if enough of us do that it will put a few voices of sanity into parliament who might vote against some of the stupider proposals put forward

Prolly a recent brain injury recipient ? However if you're sitting in Church Street Mall Parramatta, that's every day attire for the weirdos.
