All of that can be done with moderate speeds .... you are kidding if you believe its a necessity .... and im sure everything would have eventually happened via non govt if it was really a necessity

Dont misread the NBN as just a conduit for netflix.

It largely is. So what if there are a few examples showing otherwise? 99% of households will use it for TV and gaming. If the other 1% need it for business, then that's their problem and they should pay for it.

Exactly. As a business I am sure 10k or 15k to get fibre to premises would be a worthy cost and TAX deduction.

Yeh, financial success is about maximising your after-tax income rather than minimising your tax bill though.

Some businesses will certainly find it worthwhile paying for, but there is an element of public benefit in improving the average speed of businesses and consumers in Aus (or at least in the major cities).

Business would see 10k as an expense but also be able to claim and get back a portion. If it improves productivity they would reap financial gain. So should the government provide them this?

"Business" is a fairly broad term. Are we talking McDonald's here or some local kebab shop?

Anyhows its easy for guys like Gronk to put blame on Abbott.

Do they expect to replace all the old osbestos pipes? The cost be astronimcal.

What happend if they shut the old system down and 20 houses on street get fibre but one on the street is to difficult. Requires major excivating. 20k cost. Who pays for that?

Im unsure what it would of cost to finish it properly. But I do know people with Fibre to house on the premium plans And my movile still does it in for speed. I rememeber some who went on the budget nbn with fibre to house and was slower then Adsl2.

It is easy for new buildings. Im stuck in an old unit where unable to get cables down walls. The old adsl 2 was turned off top building. Out of 12 units 2 unable to get a new cable installed. It would be a major job External conduits, cherry picker etc. Id guess 2k. The installers just go to hard and f**k off.
Result NO INTERNET OR PHONE LINE.

For some stupid reason they put finely sliced carrot on kebabs in my QLD neck of the woods. I'm not a fan.
