The only scenario I can imagine needing it is if I fill up with petrol and then realize I've left the wallet at home... which doesn't happen very often. But I still want it.

A very close call in the election... I watch the AEC website, in preference to any of the TV station predictions whose numbers tend to be calling too early to be ahead of the game (ABC) or calling too late to be safe (commercial channels).

http://vtr.aec.gov.au/HousePartyRepresentationLeading-20499.htm

It refreshes every three minutes, but is currently reading:

Coalition 68
Labor 69
Greens 1
Katter 1
Xenophons 1
Independents 2

Not yet Determined 8 (3 in WA, 2 in SA, 2 in NSW, 1 in Vic)

To form government you need 76 out of the 150 seats.

Hope Wyatt Roy loses his seat. Cannot stand him.

 True Strides.

The 6 seats the AEC are currently calling not yet determined - the close results to watch in coming days - are:http://vtr.aec.gov.au/HouseSeatsNotDetermined-20499.htm):

Grayndler NSW
Cowper NSW
Higgins Vic
Barker SA
Grey SA
Durack WA

Grayndler is Albo's seat, and it's not determined because they don't yet know whether the Greens or Libs will come second. Albo's numbers look fairly safe to me either way.

Cowper is a Nationals seat being challenged by Rob Oakeshott. There's been a -7% swing against the Nationals in that seat, they're still in front though it's possible it could fall to Oakeshott on preferences.

The other four seats were all previously held by the Liberals... Grey looks likely to go to Xenophons Team on preferences, Barker looks likely to be held by Liberals over Xenophons Team on preferences, Durack should fall to the Liberals on Nationals preferences, and Higgins should be held by Liberals but a slight chance of falling to the Greens on preferences.

If the these yet to be determined seats fall as above, I'd make it out to be:

Coalition 74
Labor 70
Greens 1
Katter 1
Xenophons 2
Independents 2

It's 76 to form a Government - but then you have to nominate a Speaker (and lose their vote on the floor). So you really need 77.

Coalition + Katter + 2 Independents (whoever they are?) just gets to 77 for a government....

Labor + Green + Xenophons + 2 Independents (whoever they are?) only gets to 75.

Ok one of the Independents is current MP Andrew Wilkie from Tasmania.

The other is current MP Cathy McGowan from Victoria, who has again defeated Sophie Mirrabella.

Some interesting dealmaking to be done in the next week or so...

Absolutely pathetic speech by Turnbull, mirrored his dreadful campaign. Fraud of the highest order.

The message from this election is that the far right ultra conservatives have lost their support. If Mal can form a government with Nick X and Kater (seems he will) then the Abbott churchies can no longer dictate policy.

As much as Shorten has done a great job in winning the people over, it is clear that Australians want Turnbull to be able to govern in his own right and allow him to set his own policies.

PS. Have you ever seen someone put Alan Jones is his place better than this merkin ? --> http://www.smh.com.au/federal-polit...-malcolm-turnbull-backer-20160702-gpx60e.html

Ummmm really??? If Aus wanted Talkbull to govern in his own right and wanted him to set his own polices he would of been able to give a victory speech and outline his vision for his future instead of a 15 min whingefest on what a bunch of liars the Labor party are are how stupid the voters are believing in their scare campaigns. The libs had a dreadful campaign and it showed in the polling, all this election really showed is how sick people are of the major parties.

Definitely a huge protest vote out there. LNP lost ground because of the tepid stance on climate change, SSM etc. Shorten would have got up but for his promises seemed OTT, which people began to think that he could not deliver. One thing that pollies need to understand is that punters are sick of lies and undelivered promises.

Pauline Hanson - WTF have you Queenslanders done ?

I would have thought that the dictionary would have been updated a long time ago with politician under liar.
