The difference is that our beliefs are far more relevant to us than the speed of light or other facts.

I think you're missing the point. Since I can verify that not breathing is uncomfortable and even painful if I try it for long enough, it's easy to believe the scientific explanation, and even easier for the question to not be worth consideration. I'll believe it until I get new evidence.

Well I don't believe you don't give a shit because the fact of you continuing to push your point contradicts your stated 'fact'.

As far as facts conflicting with belief, it doesn't happen. If facts are verified then beliefs are in the realm of the unverified. Therefore it's impossible for them to be in conflict.
