Most facts don’t matter but your belief in whether light travels at 300 million metres per second doesn’t stop light travelling at whatever speed it is travelling.
Religion IS based on belief. Worshippers have faith to the existence of whatever diety there regardless of evidence to the contrary

The point is I could. I could review the testing of other people. I could build my own interferometer and measure it myself. My belief in whether it even exists doesn’t change how fast it travels. And being sceptical of facts leads to improved scientific knowledge, or at worst redundant testing.

No different to how people change their beliefs (or lack thereof) when they stop working for them.

The difference is that our beliefs are far more relevant to us than the speed of light or other facts.
