Ended up buying a Hyundai Santa Fe Highlander diesel for the family. Had it for 3 months now. Very happy with it. Top car.

Now my daughter is saving up for a car and I was stupid enough to offer a dollar for dollar match up. She wants a Mazda CX3. Anyone have one?

My kids are going the opposite. I'm showing them that owning, insuring and running a car is f**king expensive and they are better off using public transport or Uber.

I can see a growing trend in my area that Gen Y are doing this. Those who are in their 20's also have the option of GoGet which I see are parked all over my suburb now in council designated share spaces.

When you sit down and work out how much a car costs a young person, they are far better off trying to live without it.

f**king lefties. :)

It's not about saving the planet, it's about thinking outside the square and getting from A-B differently.

TBH they need to learn to be agile in the way they live. How else will they ever get to own their own homes ?

Learning to use public transport should be something all children should do.
You don't want them relying on their parents to give them lifts everywhere all the time, and when they don't have a car available to them they won't have too many problems.

My Mum never had a license, and my Dad rarely drove me anywhere. Had to learn to get places myself. It put me in good stead for when I was older and wanted to go out and drink.

A girl I work with has never caught public transport in her life. If she goes out she drives. If for some reason she hasn't got her car she is stuffed and won't go out anywhere.

When I was 10 we were between homes and renting a unit in Cabramatta. I used to catch the train from Cabra station to Carramar and walk another 2 km to Villawood Primary school. Then when we moved to Carramar I used to train it to our home games at Cabramatta. sports ground and play for my beloved Cabra Police Boys in soccer. If I got there early I'd play the pinnies at Solar City.

When I was a teenager I used to shop at a cool place in Cabra in John St called Loose Threads. They were ahead of their time. The only Aussie run shop on the strip. Was introduced to Jag Jeans before they became woggy. Also was introduced to Stuart Membury T shirts. Oh the memories.
