Would you want some tacky looming cheap solar light like that in your property?
I'd spend the $$ and put something decent in.

That's just an example. There's plenty of choice if you're prepared to look.

Point is that there is alternatives to hard wiring, and digging under paths or whatever, that still offer you the ability to control the lighting remotely.

I am cautious about going down the solar rabbit hole. Clearly I want a robust system that works 365 and has a modestly small solar panel.

Battery's used are key, so obviously Lithium. Powering them long enough with LED's these days isn't that great a worry, they'll last plenty long enough. Longevity of the battery is what you want, so NiCad or NiMH are a bit sucky in that regard.

You might find overcast / rainy days during winter might not give you enough charge to run into the wee hours of the morning, but are you gonna really want ambient garden lighting at 1:00am of rainy winters night all that often?

The other advantage is you can move them around at a whim, so you're not left having to run cable etc if you want to change part of your garden, or high light different plants or areas through different seasons.

And if you ever sell up, you can be a real tight merkin and take them with you!

thats why I suggested them, hard wiring in a garden where you are often digging up plants and replacing them, gardening etc, f**k that

Yeah agree. So easy to just change up when you move shit, or add more if you want. And when the missus changes her mind, you don't have to call a sparky.

I just know wired ones will last a very long time and are usualy a more attractive fitting. Feel free to post photos and I can let know.
Depends on budget. But you have a timer controlling and run them say from 6pm to 10pm and 5am to 6am perhaps.
Most are under 3 w and so if had 10x that's 30w. Or 300w for 10hrs.
1kw will cost you 28cents. So $1 a week to run based on this calculation. Or half that if had a timer doing 5hrs a night.

Do you think I should get another GPO at the front of the house or can I run 30m of 12v down to the front garden from the back of the house ?

If you are going to install something you will probably need to remove that massive arrow from the side of your house. How much does that f**king thing weigh?

Are the lamps AC or DC and what wattage are they ? DC has a greater voltage drop than AC.

If its only 30m it wont be a problem for AC and I doubt would even be a problem for DC unless you are using a really light gauge cable.

Keep the cable well submerged and up against the dwelling so you dont dig it up in the future. Anything underground will also be subject to the same issues you had with your U/G pipes depending on the vegetation in your garden.

Just keep looping in and out from back to the front. The gauge of wire just needs to be thicker that is all. But wherever buy lights they will have thicker cable. Just let then know how far you plan to run. Plenty of people run 30mtrs.

If you just plug into the outlet the lights will be on all time. You will need someone to either put a switch for the outlet or PE cell to control it.
