The assertion that I was trying to make is that on the whole Christians have progressed whilst our Islamic cohorts have not. They are generally about 400 years behind. And I have to be general about it as there are specifics that people can come up with to continue any argument

Some Christian churches have accepted female ministers. Now whether or not you agree with that when do you think Islam will accept a female mufti? Probably never.

I am not Catholic but even the current Pope (Pope Francis) has been more sympathetic and asked Catholics to be more understanding and tolerant of the gay community. When do you think that Islam will do the same. 400 years? Never?

You'll get no disagreement from me that there are plenty of aspects of the current practice of Islam that are abhorrent. But it is very easy for people to base their judgement on Islam and Islamic people on the behaviour of the idiot fringe (even if that is a pretty big fringe in some countries). While it is perfectly understandable that people are frustrated and angry about things they see on the TV and even down at the local mall, but an unthinking focus of the worst side of religion/ culture X, creates exactly the sort of environment in which true evil can come to flourish in an apparently peaceful society.

People who plead tolerance and moderation are not all self-righteous moral crusaders. How are they more of a moral crusader than those who disagree with them? Some of them just don't want to f**k up our country and world and then wonder 'how did that happen?'.

Comparing it to the New Testament, simply on the grounds that you dismissed the NT because the texts we have were written around a century after the events.

There may be other legitimate reasons to dismiss the NT as not accurate, but the fact that the texts we have were written 80-100 years after the events are not a legitimate reason to do so.

So it was an attempted debating tactic, rather than an actual view (hello Pou).

All I said was what the old or new testament say might well be imaginary, even if a person named Jesus did walk the earth.

Of course there are other reasons to dismiss the bible, but like you I also didn't go into these for the sake if relevance to the thread/discussion.

No it's not. There was a tolerant good intentioned Prime Minister named Malcolm Fraser who refused to pay bribes to the Lebanese Government as did Brazil. Countries that did got the best skilled immigrants from that country whilst we let's just say received a Forest Gump box of chocolates.

Have a guess who has the biggest problem with their immigrants from that region ? Do you think we coincidentally have second and third generation 'Australians' that now want to destroy this country on a consistent basis? Why are they doing that? We all as Australians had good intentions to save them. Why does Australia now have the highest threat level of terrorism in it's short history ? Ironically most of the threat is from our own communities that we tried to save all with good intentions and all that shit.
