When these things happen, it reminds of me when you see a husband pleading with the public to help find his missing wife.... you WANT to believe that he's telling the truth and that he hasn't hacked up her body and buried her somewhere but you just know that he's guiilty....Same as this young fella in Bali - I WANT to believe he's telling the truth, but he's probably just a bit stupid and yeah, the blow is probably his.....
Of course we can't rule out the rank corruption of the Indonesian police. I have an uncle who is an expat there an he tells wild stories of how cash is king over there.
Drivers will be accused of false crimes and be asked to pay fines in cash. He tells me a story of backpackers being thrown to the ground and cops pull out a rolly and told in no uncertain terms to pay the fine of face drug charges.
Last year the shit hit the the fan when "private security" stormed a bucks party in a villa and made "arrests" if "fines" were not paid. The private security seem to be in cahoots with the local police.
"Seven Balinese police officers will face trial over extortion allegations after 16 Melbourne men attending a buck's weekend in Seminyak were forced to pay a bribe of about $25,000 to avoid trumped up charges and threats of a 10-year prison sentence."

I'm not saying that the Perth kid is innocent, but he was "arrested" by private security which seems to be a pattern.
As much my son has a great uncle there, I will plead with him not to go there when travelling or at least stay away from the Seminyak, Kuta coast.
